The eye-watering price of fast food

It has been about a month since my last cup of coffee. I miss it but it is important to keep the acid at bay right now. After an appointment this afternoon I decided to treat myself to one scoop of Jamocha ice cream at Baskin and Robbins. I got 26 cents back from a five. I guess it has been a few years since my last visit.
Ice cream prices have become so expensive. I feel like I'm buying part of the cow just for a treat.

On the way home on Saturday I pulled into a village some miles from here to get a Chinese take away because it is the best Chinese restaurant for miles around. I used to get Take-away about once a month...now at most it'll be 3 times a year because the prices are sky high.. yet... as I sat there waiting for them to bring my food out, the phone did not stop ringing, and as he took their orders he told them the cost.. £ 48... £55.. £62... my jaw was on the floor... and then as I sat there a Man came in who'd clearly ordered by phone before I got there, said his name to get his order, and the Server said that'll be £112.00.... ( $138 US dollars )

I almost fainted. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd see someone pay £112 for a Chinese take-out.. and he only got 4 bags of food

Your post pulled a lovely little memory string that I haven't thought of in years.

Around 1981, close friends of my parents' were visiting them from Florida. DH & I had planned a couple of days on the island of Catalina and the visitors asked to tag along. We were happy to have them join us.

One morning at breakfast, my "uncle" asked the waitress if they had orange juice. Sure, she replied, and quoted an outrageously high price.

He drawled, "Darlin', I only asked for a glassful, I wasn't wantin' to buy the whole tree."

Although he was worth millions, being raised quite poor during the Depression continued to guide him. He declined the orange juice and stuck with coffee.

here in the Uk ice cream prices are quite reasonable.... altho' quality ice cream like Haagen Dasz is pricey comparatively
Around here the specialty ones for example, a small thing of Haagen Dazs is the same price as a gallon of ice cream. It's $6.00 for those and nearly $3.00 for a half gallon of ice cream. Same thing with Ben and Jerry's.
