The "F" word topic shut down?

Why? No one was aggressive or foul mouthed.
I was going to contribute - "Are we talking about F Troop?
One of those great shows never to be seen again
Well it does make me happy to know that people in Australia got to see F Troop. Just like we in the U.S. got to see one of your television shows.

And I thought my answer was pretty good.
I hope this example is okay. We better watch it.
Penn and Teller give awards to magicians who fool them. Fooled Us is written FU.

I had wanted to post my swearing history, which has intensified over the years. I always used colorful language (tho not in front of my parents) and by now I swear more than any sailor, as the saying goes. The F word being one of my favorites. I found people's comments about it quite prudish. Think of Lenny Bruce, and how often he was arrested for using swear words in his standup routine.

it's surely not about the actual word itself wherever it originated from but all the many connections with effin other words and then inserted into an attacking sentence that makes all the difference - my great grandson the other day whilst at play hit his thumb with his miniature hammer /iron head and used the eff word in a sentence !!!! that hurt! - the room went deadly silent and his mother swooped him up in her arms and said "never ****** mind Mummy will make it better and then the room erupted into mirth?? or was that effin mirth??

I hear you. I do it too.

I'm guilty of adding my opinion to that naughty word post. It didn't even occur to me it would come across as political, but just my frustration with that yucky word being used by a person who shouldn't use it, imo.

When I hear the word "screwed" I think of a screwdriver. When I hear the f--- word spoken, I think low morals, but I admit saying might just be an expression said without it's original meaning intended.

I don't ordinarily use that kind of language, but words like that have sometimes erupted on impulse if I'm already frustrated and in a hurry, and in the midst of it all, I drop something and break it, or such. Fortunately, no one is around to hear me when that happens.

I don't consider myself prudish. I think it all comes down to our lived experiences. I never heard my parents utter a swear word so it didn't come naturally to me. I am also aware there are still many people who don't approve so I don't use the "F" word in mixed company. It is more a consideration of other people's sensitivities.

I have no problem when in my car or talking to my hubby.

When I was in high school there was a boy I particularly detested. When I was close enough for him to hear I would call him an “alfombra”. I could make his ears turn red in anger…so it became my special power. The word means “rug” in spanish. I believe people are kidding themselves when they think they have not indulged in swearing when they say words like “fish” or “drat” instead of “sh**”….the intent is there and all means exactly the same thing.
