The Five Families

Your post made me think of the Genovese Family's Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano's presence in Cuba under Batista.

My Aunt and Uncle used to vacation in Florida and hop a boat to Cuba for the gambling and nightlife in the late 40s and early to mid-50s.

When I went to Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, East Harlem "which was a little known Mafia enclave" and Howard Beach it was fairly easy to spot the real McCoy from the wannabes. You always recognized the quiet whisper of authority, lol. Take care.

Fidel And Che wrecked that plan. What would have been the better outcome for Cuba? Mafia corruption boosting the local economy or Fidel and Che completely destroying Cuba's economy and almost bringing the world to nuclear war? I always wondered, thnx for posting.

I was going to wrap this up with this intro then cover the NYC's Five Families but one cannot cover the global effects of the Mafia with localized coverage. Let me conduct some more research and I promise to post much more coverage after the five families post. TTFN.

And J Edgar Hoover refused to believed in organized crime.
He changed his mind in 1957 about that.

Mr. Hoover knew full well the Mafia existed long before the 1957 Apalachin Mafia meeting. This individual was the epitome of flagrant abuse of lawful authority and his own Mafia cohorts reigned him in with blackmail.

Of course he did, but would not publicly state so as one of the big mobsters who kept him informed, also gave him who the winners of the horse races were going to be and Hoover made a tidy sum betting on them.
