The get together appeared harmless!!

A fun surprise birthday party for this Texas family, for just a couple hours, turns into a full- on infection zone with 18 people testing positive!!

This kind of thing scares the crap out of me..... a party that by current state health standards appeared harmless. A total of 25 people attended, and not all of them arrived and stayed for the same duration.

A nephew is the one who was unknowingly infected, thinking a slight cough was the byproduct of working in construction.

Full story here.

I can't view the video with this browser, but the thing is after attending a gathering individuals who contracted the virus can be out there infecting countless numbers of other people in the community, possibly without even having symptoms themselves.

So it's not a matter of individuals making 'choices' for 'themselves.'

This is a really sad story.
The surprise gathering, of people who all thought they were healthy....
only one had a slight cough he thought was from breathing dust at his construction work site...

and within 2 weeks, this has effected numerous relatives who were NOT at the 2 hour total gathering.

Some are now hospitalized, (again, did not go to the party)
in critical care and isolated from each other. So sad.

That's so sad, and it makes me think I was right to not attend a get together here last week where some were not wearing masks. I saw them from afar and waved hello but declined the invitation. I don't know where everyone had been and what they may have caught. It's still best IMO to stay home!

Yes, Ruthanne. It's a very confusing time, I think, with many people believing it is safe to do this or that..... and inviting others, and we'd all like to think it's okay.

I understand what you are saying but I, for one, don't feel safe to partake of any activities with others at this time. I think I'll wait for the vaccine to come out before I try anything.

Similar event happened up in rural Shasta County, NE part of CA. It's a real problem, listening to rural residents claiming "it's only the cities that are having COVID infections; we've got so few residents per acre we don't need to worry here".

There's one rural CA city that has completely refused to recommend any precautions, saying they think it's all a big hoax by anti-Trump supporters. Sheesh.

California man with coronavirus symptoms infected large family gathering, health officials say
SFGATE, June 23, 2020

Shasta County health officials say a man showing coronavirus symptoms attended a "large family gathering," now a cluster of a dozen confirmed cases.

The man, who is in his 20s, attended the party a few weeks ago. Afterward, he went in for a COVID-19 test and learned he had the virus. The county health department asked 20 people at the party to self-quarantine. As of June 21, 12 party-goers have now tested positive and most are showing symptoms, health officials said.

Large indoor gatherings are prohibited by the California stay-at-home order.

Although Shasta County still has a relatively small number of cases, its numbers have soared in June. After an April and May where rarely more than one case was confirmed each day, June has consistently had multiple positives per day. The county health department says it's at an overall alert level of 3 out of 4, designating "many cases including community spread, with undetected cases likely."

The county now has 86 confirmed cases, 25 people in quarantine, two hospitalizations and four deaths.
