The first time I visited New York City, the subway token was 30¢. When I moved to New York City, the fare increased to 35¢. Then 50¢, and by the time I left the city, it was 60¢.

I loved the subway. I took it all over Brooklyn and into Manhattan. One time all the way up to the Bronx. ( Zoo ) I lived in Brooklyn in 1972/73. I think the token looked like this back then.

I lived in Manhattan during '67-'68. I used a whole bunch of those 20 cents tokens. I think the fare has outpaced inflation. But that's New York...

We have free trolleys here but they are unreliable and one of those things that sound great poorly run .

Yes, I remember the subway tokens. When my grandmother was growing up in NYC the tokens were very small in size. They were easy to lose inside deep pockets. I'm about to use the OMNI card next week. I hope it works.

That's around the time that I lived in Brooklyn. I lived in Brooklyn Heights, near the harbor.

When I rode the subway hundreds of times in the 15 years I lived there, I don't know if I knew just how lucky I was.
