The Human Touch..

“I spent an hour in the bank with my dad, as he had to transfer some money. I couldn't resist myself and asked...
''Dad, why don't we activate your internet banking?''
''Why would I do that?'' He asked...
''Well, then you wont have to spend an hour here for things like transfer.
You can even do your shopping online. Everything will be so easy!''

I was so excited about initiating him into the world of Net banking.

He asked ''If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house?

''Yes, yes''! I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered at door now and how amazon delivers everything!

His answer left me tongue-tied.

He said ''Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends, I have chatted a while with the staff who know me very well by now.
You know I am alone...this is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave.

Two years back I got sick, The store owner from whom I buy fruits, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried.

When your Mom fell down few days back while on her morning walk. Our local grocer saw her and immediately got his car to rush her home as he knows where I live.

Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online?

Why would I want everything delivered to me and force me to interact with just my computer?

I like to know the person that I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'. It creates bonds of Relationships.

Does Amazon deliver all this as well?'''

Technology isn't life..

Spend time with people .. Not with devices."

I have been saying this for years. In the end, technology will kill us one by one. They say suicides and depression is up with Covid19. Of course, it is. With Amazon shopping and getting groceries delivered to your home and auto bank withdrawals you come be dead for many days before anyone even notes or smells you! This is not the kind of life I want. When I meet "little ole ladies" in the hallway during my morning walks I always say hi and we have a bit of chat. Makes me feel human and I haven't heard any compliants from the little ole ladies.

I enjoy getting out and going to the store. I will sometimes go to the bank in person to make my mortgage payment.

I see it as a form of exercise, and getting some fresh air. I like to see what I'm buying at the store. Whether it's clothes
or food. And seeing people!
I think I've only made one purchase online. In fact, I have to buy a baby shower gift and I checked out her registry online, and a lot of the items can only be purchased online. She's registered at Target and Amazon.

So, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do...

I like going to a store ..cannot imagine someone else picking my produce as i time when i want to use something etc...
I like seeing new things/ special deals not online cause sometimes they are that store only situations...feeling like i am among others
not just thinking life is like i see on TV or news.
But that might be what those in charge want .... imagine no interaction and you assume everything is as bad or good as you are told.

My daughter works in a large grocery store and those "shopping" for delivery are just grabbing items as fast as they can .... no regard but to finish the list.

They say that when you watch TV or a movie you are living someone else's life. A bit of TV or a movie wouldn't kill you but some seniors sit and watch TV all day long. They seem to have given up on life and it seems to me that they are waiting for that black hearse to come and collect their body. I watch Gunsmoke and Rawhide in the evening but during the day I have a life. It's short enough so why waste it?

I have gone banking and shopping, enjoying getting out, meeting and chatting, interacting with
people. When I could no longer get out I did online baking and enjoyed it. It was easy to reconcile my account and so convenient. But I got kicked off online banking because of confusion over pass words.

I no longer do online banking and try to reconcile my account monthly when a statement comes in. My son has my debit card and uses it to buy our
groceries and or other needed items. Sometime when my son is busy, I buy groceries online or things from amazon. Sometime receipts are mistakenly thrown away. Altogether it is most difficult to reconcile a bank account. But life is what it is and I more or less live with my computer.

I never had a problem with quality when having a shopper. They don't want complaints. So I get really good results.:)

I like to pick out my own groceries and because I have two large freezers I can go when I feel like it and not because I'm out of anything.
These days I do it for exercise and to get some fresh air. Sometimes I see a friend and stop to chat for a few minutes.

The Salvation Army is my only vice. Nothing better than to spend the afternoon rummaging around in their store. Usually end up talking to someone about how the quality has gone down these days and how we remember this or that in our Moms and Grandmas home.

Not being a really social type of person that's all I need to keep me happy.
My computer is so handy for buying my grandkids gifts since half the time I don't know what I'm buying so my daughter makes the choices and knows what they like.
I hope the day will never come when I have to do online banking. It makes me nervous thinking about it.

You don't have to have an on-line account to get hacked. Banks get hacked on a regular basis.

Big banks experience cyber attacks nearly every day, according to JPMorgan Chase Bank. The raiders are said to have used sophisticated and unique malware to get deep enough into the banks' computer systems to delete and manipulate records.

Yup, my sister's bank account got hacked by someone forging checks -- they didn't steal her checks; what they did is get her information from a check she had given to a store and create phony checks, which they then passed off as legit. The signature looked nothing like my sister's, but the bank didn't catch it. And it wasn't some rinky-dink little bank; it was a large nationwide bank. Banks apparently don't try very hard to catch bad signatures any more, or maybe they are overwhelmed by the numbers of checks that pass through every day. I once failed to sign an employee's payroll check; she deposited it and it cleared, minus signature. I was flabbergasted.
