The Internet is Great ...BUT!

So much interaction on this forum! I love it! Thanks so much!

Hello All! I love the fact that technology has made advances that we've all benefitted from ... BUT!

I often yearn to speak directly to a live person instead of going through 10 machine-generated prompts before reaching a live person (if at all!).

I love finding valuable information on the Internet BUT, I'm 1) challenged by the tiny print that's so hard to read, 2) there are so many predators and scammers on websites like dating and gaming, and seniors are a primary target, 3) and, my biggest pet peeve of all ...! the incessant pop-up ads that constantly interfere with what you're trying to read on a site.

For goodness sakes, they even have websites where there is a video ad running that is always in your peripheral vision! Do they really think anyone is capable of reading AND listening to a video ad at the same time?

Is it just me that is bothered by this constant mental bombardment? I miss the quietness of how life was before we were so over-taken by technology, as beneficial as it may be. How about you?
At my advanced age of "OLD", I totally agree with you.

Those dang popups in my peripheral vision are a monstrous pain in the you-know-where when I trying to solve a Mahjong game.

I do use so-called popup protection software, but those are very unsatisfactory in suppressing those Google $$$ making popups. The popup boys figure out rather quickly how to defeat such programs. The present day YouTube is a total disaster with what Google has done with it.

My best defense is to copy/paste the dang news/info sites into a text file. I clear out the junk and then read what's left. As for YouTube, I have a great downloader which seems to work very well, leaving all the ad junk out of the download. That could end up useless tomorrow. YouTube is the worst for defeating any downloads without being a member.

It's just gonna git worse.

*Hahaha. I do that all the time myself. I thought I was the only one.

Whew, yes! I'm with you about how frustrating it is to listen to automated corporate or agency voice messages. Also I hate dealing with other tech-generated stuff like "chat" lists of short-phrase, multiple-choice prompts which online retailers and services present — that's not chatting at all. What I'm always wanting to get is a knowledgeable, rational human with some tiny bit of authority about something that's costing me time or money (or both).

Many businesses or agencies are now hiding behind that stuff... apparently hoping you'll get fed-up and give up. The world may have become simpler for large businesses or government-service providers, but I would not say it has for the average Joe or Josephine.
