The Library of Congress has over 300 free films, clips, commercials and documentaries from 1890 through 1999 in its National Screening Room collection.

The collection lists films about America's past that are deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and are earmarked for preservation by the Library of Congress. Most of the fiction and nonfiction movies are in the public domain, available for streaming or downloading.

Visiting various areas of the collection can turn up some interesting areas to explore and films to view, or, you can browse the collection through the sorting menus. The collection can be sorted by title, date, shelf order, original format and online format, date, geographic location, and subject.
