On the way up to where my daughter and son in law live the avenue turns from rural gated communities before it becomes a suburb.
It was at one of the four way stops along that north bound avenue that we saw the little girl with the sign.
She was sitting on the base that held the sign for the gated community.
That corner was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere.
She was holding up a hand printed sign that said “Black Lives Matter.”
Right away I wondered why a little white girl cared about black lives. Maybe she has a friend who is black.
But the more I got to thinking about it the more that I realized that Black Lives do matter.
Not the ones who are out blocking highways or looting but the everyday people just like me who want to live peaceful lives and who live day to day.
The kind that I run into at the discount store or the home improvement place or the doctors office waiting room.
The ones that I sometimes have a simple friendly conversation with.
I know that I will never see that little girl and her sign on the 5 O:Clock news but in a way that makes it more special because she is expressing what she believes and is doing it without a lot of fanfare.
But I did worry about her safety being on that corner in the middle of nowhere like that alone.
But we drove on up to our daughters house.
