People Magazine wrote an article about it. The Long Island Serial Killer has a Wikipedia page.
As of this article's publication:
"The married father of two is also the prime suspect in the slaying of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25. The petite women were all sex workers who advertised on Craigslist.

Their bound bodies were discovered within two days of each other in 2010 on a stretch of New York's Gilgo Beach, but it would take investigators more than 12 years to find their alleged killer."

But within the last couple of days, this family man and architect who lived in a nice neighborhood is now considered a suspect in more unsolved murders, including those in Atlantic City, N.J., Las Vegas, each of which he owns property and S.C., that has unsolved murders of sex workers. People who knew him described him as creepy and dark. One neighbor said he always tried to avoid him.

It has been proven, mainly by the FBI that serial killers have killed way more than they have been accused of killing. I often refer to Rodney Acala, who had been linked to 8 murders, yet is “suspected” of killing over 100 females. Rodney was the man who was the winner on the TV Show, “The Dating Game” to refresh your memory back in the late 1970’s.

Before my career ended, I was assigned to the case of an unnamed (was never given a nickname like “The Green-Eyed Killer”) serial killer that had killed 3 young people. Harvey Robinson was a suspect almost right after he killed a 15 year old female newspaper carrier. He then killed a 47 year old Grandmother. After that, he attempted to kill a 5 y/o, but he had killed prior to the first person he was charged with.

He was later sentenced to death, but court battles lowered a few of his sentences to life, except one death sentence is still in place, or at least, I have not received any word that the sentence was commuted. Any time a sentence or any action is taken on a case that I have had a hand in would be worked, I would be advised.

When I interviewed him, we had been talking for maybe 4 hours or more. He asked if he could have a bottle of soda and a cigarette break. We don’t give bottles of soda, but I did get him a can of soda and allowed him to step outside and smoke a few cigarettes. We allow them these small perks as long as they keep talking. During the conversation, I asked him how many people do you think you killed. He asked me is this on or off the record? I told him it was just the 2 of us having a conversation, but in reality, anything he says can be used in court to convict. He told me probably at least 15, which kind of surprised me because I was thinking of a higher number.

BTW, he was a hard arrest. We had a bit of a minor shootout, but after 3 more Troopers arrived, he quickly gave up. I had a great head shot with my old (back then) 30.06 rifle that I was just ready to squeeze off, but then, he threw down his weapon and surrendered. I was glad he gave up. No one wants to have to take a person’s life.

On the other side of the coin..........Some so called "serial killers " will CLAIM dozens of kills, for the notoriety of it. A couple of them in Texas come to mind. When the investigators started tracking down his "claims " it was obvious that he was lying about many of them. One of the things that helps some serials to get away with their kills is the Inter State Highway system, which allows them to cover great distances in just a few days of driving. A long distance owner/operator truck driver has a pretty good cover for killing and leaving the area, quickly. JimB.

Several serial killers have had a truck driving background in their past. I studied the habits of Richard Ramirez, better known as “The Night Stalker” and his number of killings cannot be confirmed, although he is tied to at least 15 dead bodies.

An author, Ginger Strand, wrote in one of her books that although she cannot confirm an exact number of truck drivers that have become or were serial killers, she has been able to count at least 25 truck drivers as being former serial killers.

I've followed this LISK case pretty closely. I'm just making a post as found a thread on it and so I can hit the "watch" button.

Not sure how many here follow crime but it is a hobby of mine with a few cases anyhow. I am no expert on the case, but know a fair amount and know YT channels, etc. that cover it and any updates on it.

Well, I hope they lock him up and throw away the key!
without a doubt. no DP there so LWOP hopefully times seven is probably the best they can do. maybe he traded a guilty plea for butter is what many are thinking/joking about lol. he whined to that other serial killer about no real butter in jail in a letter. but was told in prison they have real butter. i know the serial killer, the other one, but can't think of his name right now...

Ha ha , I've never heard that about the butter. I don't follow th e case as much anymore, as it's dragged on for so long! I don't know of which serial killer you're speaking of...

Oh I thought of it, well at least the nickname. The Smiley Face Killer wrote him and he wrote back. If my memory serves, Rex asked him if they had real butter in prison as he misses real butter and the jail does not have it. Poor guy.

I follow a bit of crime on Youtube. Some cases anyhow.

Also, Smiley's daughter and the daughter of Dennis Rader, another serial killer, reached out to wife and daughter of Rex when he was arrested. Serial killers connecting... Scary imo... And their families.

Anyhow, there is no death penalty on him in NY and I don't think they'd deal with him from LWOP, so does he just want to plead guilty to avoid trial or what could they give him? So many are saying butter maybe... Kind of kidding but...

I think he's probably responsible for a lot more murders than he's been charged with so far...

I follow travel, cooking/food, gardening and a bit of crime. I'm new.

SUPPOSEDLY he is admitting to all 7 charged murders tomorrow and I've now heard he is also admitting to one he has not been charged with Karen Vergata...

If anyone has followed this case, John Ray had someone that thought they were with Karen at Rex and wife's home, a swinging thin and a long story but anyhow, supposedly that's an 8th murder he is going to admit to tomorrow is what is being said!

LISK's wife and daugher and atty were on today trying to knock Ray and know distance them from having any involvement in the murders (after they made a large amount of money off the fact dad and hubby was an alleged serial killer) and from civil cases... Tonight I hear it is Vergata the 8th one he is going to admit to...

Anyhow this is all supposed to happen tomorrow... If anyone follows this case, it is supposed to be a pretty big news day on it...

His confession means he will spend the rest of his life in prison. From what I’ve seen it seems he will be giving a lot of information to psychologists and others for research on serial killers and psychopaths.
I feel relieved and satisfied he has been brought to justice.
I feel sad for the girl’s families and friends.
These were terrible crimes against women who already had more than their share of difficulties.

not the end of this i read his wife and daughter made a million dollars from some docuseries on Netflix . now a child of one of the victims sued them to get compensation for his mother's death.
Many like to fight the charges for him to decide to confess and give up at least one more victim seems like the geo location evidence on where he was and dna must have been fairly conclusive

There is more to it imo too. I've followed it quite closely over time.

I'm glad he's going away for good but I think he had a reason for pleading guilty and don't think it's what many out there think...

I'm on a wait and see but not sure the answer will ever come if what I think...

NY doesn't allow DNA to hit the database until a conviction as a felon if I have that right. When his DNA hits, more he did may come, HOWEVER, there was only one I think of his own hairs ever found on any of these victims or the things they were in or bound with, etc.

His wife is disgusting. No one wants me to get started on that believe me...

I don't know anything about this guy's wife, but I actually feel sorry for the wives of many serial killers. Most don't seem to have a clue. People like John Wayne Gacy and Dennis Rader (BTK killer) actually had wives who were oblivious. Even Ted Bundy had a girlfriend for several years. These guys have an ability to compartmentalize their dark sides that is nothing short of amazing.

I would be skeptical, but I've seen too many episodes of Evil Lives Here on ID. Most episodes are interviews with ex-wives who were emotionally and physically abused and were afraid to leave due to children involved. Their ex-husbands went on to kill multiple people. Some clearly feel guilty for not being able to stop their husband's behavior.

Well I agree to a point and on some of them. I don't tend to feel that way with Asa. She extremely quickly knew exactly what to do and to use the situation to make $$ and they ensured in the divorce, all assets went to her, I mean him and her did... Trying to ensure imo the victim families couldn't get anything but right now she's named in a suit as well and that's a side story but worth mentioning... For what I might say some other day...

There's also some things I just watched a show that make one wonder, some other things I mean. For instance someone said it's a bit unbelievable at least the wife and the brother did not recognize that belt of his grandfather's... Just as one example, there were other examples... I could really go on long about this case and all this but just citing a few things...

Then there is the story from a woman who went to John Ray... Now a lot of LE/NY big attys don't think much of him but he has been there for the victims and Gilbert too who they say was not murdered...

But anyhow as it goes, his witness is pretty certain she was to their home for a two couple swinging thing... Asa was pg, did not really want to participate and the woman's cop partner picked up a woman to take with them... There's more to it but the point is enough detail was given that Tierney and investigators could have long ago confirmed or denied this story after investigating but they never have and that was supposedly Karen Vergata that was taken with them... AND they left her behind...

I don't know if the story is true or not as it's never been either prove wrong or right that we are aware of... And IF it's true that places Asa at home when the murder of Karen Vergata happened... And that's big because they stress in most of the other ones they can show she was gone.

But even then they don't know when these women died... All they've ever had was the likely date of disappearance...

So just a few things to chew on with regard to Asa... I can give others...

And surprise, the story about Vergata has never been prove or shown untrue either and he pleads guilty to an 8th case never charged and what case is that? Vergata. Hmmm. And the only case that possibly might place Asa at home and knowing is Vergata...

The day before Asa and her attorney were on, not that day of, that's a different one....

Lol like I said I've followed it pretty closely...

Yes I do believe with abuse, compartmentalization, etc. some don't realize or know but even then I bet they start to see it in hindsight...

However, not sure I buy that with Asa. I won't include kids as that's just different. They listen to their parents, or adore them, or are controlled and are children and probably don't see it unless they run right into it.
