The luck of the draw in life

Question to someone over yonder...

This topic reminded me a couple of yrs ago I was reading up on an American actor, can't remember who it was but he died in 80s I think, of a lung or breathing disease he caught from something natural that's in the soil or air or grass (not manmade pollution) somewhere over yonder.

I've tried to find the area and the problem causing this , but can't remember enough to find the answer I'm seeking.

Anyone?
You may be referring to Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis), a fungal disease caused by inhaling airborne spores. I don't know of anyone famous who died from it. Most people recover unless they are heavy smokers, in which case it can be a contributing factor to their deaths - as it may have been with Robert Taylor and Lee Marvin.

Aspergillosis is another fungal infection that can severely harm those with weakened immune systems or compromised lungs.

I think one of the greatest mistakes our fearless leaders have made is bow far too much to the real estate investment industry and refuse to build or facilitate the building of affordable homes to buy in each and every community.

It is a whole new kind of evil and economic discrimination, but the investor class has told Congress to do this, so, like idiot lemmings, they do it. Them that has the gold makes the rules.

I’ll bet the nation of Cambodia has not had to deal with so much of that societal design bull-crap. But, IDK. I don’t know much about the gov’t. there.

Our Congress listens to only about 10% of us on a regular basis. They are the wealthiest 10%. We have to rise up and tell them, one way or another, to stop that habit. This is one reason why a certain person won a certain election - one friend of mine really wanted to send a message. Was thrilled that this certain person won. Thought it was high time D.C. get a taste of its own medicine.

Do you think they heard? Will they ever blame their own selves? But please - no politics! History only! Personal anecdotes only!
US state and local governments have indeed built public housing, as in "The Projects." Didn't work out well, as I recall. Does anyone seriously expect the US government to get into the real estate business? Can't see that ending well...

Yes Congress has plenty of blame for all kinds of problems, but so do ordinary citizens who didn't bother to read the writing on the wall when they were still young. Adults - in the US, at least - make choices that will affect the rest of our lives. Education, career, whether to marry and if so, who to bind ourselves with. Where to live, whether to buy a home, how to spend resources, and more. Most are free to decide how to steer our ships.

Early decision that seem wise but turn to ashes in people's mouths aren't the responsibility of the goverment to shore up. Yes, govt services provide small support to citizens in extreme poverty, but beyond that, this country embraces a fair amount of "you spent 60+ years making your bed, now lie in it."

No one has mentioned how we choose to cope with the hand we are dealt. It's not always where you are or what has happened to you as much as what your plans are and how you believe you will get there. So it's not completely luck but choices you make as well.

Oh Star Song, you're a Star - tis exactly that - Valley Fever! (y):giggle:

It's been niggling me since I posted about it and when I finally gave up searching the web and racking my brain - ping! It came to me.
It was indeed Valley Fever and the actor was Lee Marvin.

Possibly the infection came from mouse or rat droppings in the hot and dry deserts of the southwestern USA states. Once the excrement dries out it becomes wind borne and dusty, and a person may inhale it . Here is a link to the Mayo Clinic information about Hantavirus infection.

Thanks for that too jim, although it was the Valley Fever I came across.

I've just read your link ..... another eye opener for me.
I'm not well up on our history, plus forgetfulness, but I think the Great Plague in London was caused from tic bites from rats.
Other than that I don't think we've anything over here wafting about that causes us serious illnesses, but stand corrected if anyone knows differently.

I like Joel Osteen. I enjoy listening to him. Many times, not often lately, he might actually say something profound and insightful. I actually went to Madison Square Garden to see him, about 20? years ago with my son. We had a great time. I like Joel. Of my own free will, I bought, years ago, about one or two of his books, which read like he speaks. T-shirt too, which I still wear. No one forced me to do this.

Joel entertains me. I believe he believes what he says is true. I am an atheist. I like Joel Osteen.
Osteen is a fox in sheep clothing. He’s more of a motivational speaker than he is a televangelist.
