The Matrix is everywhere. It's all around us.

So says Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus in sci-fi classic ‘The Matrix’ as he offers Keanu Reeves’s Neo the choice to find out just how “deep the rabbit hole goes”. Now, just as Neo discovered that the "life" he'd been living was little more than an algorithmic construct, scientists and philosophers are arguing that we could be stuck inside a simulation ourselves. The theory, in a nutshell, posits that the entire universe and our objective reality are just super-advanced virtual reality illusions. Recent developments in a branch of science known as information physics appear to support this possibility.

Do you think that this is possible? And does it really matter? (With apologies to @Matrix  )

While probably impossible to rule out, I would surmise it to be extremely unlikely.
With just the complexity of our world alone, from the behavior of subatomic particles, to life forms, and infinite possibilities in all the interactions of elements from weather to food and conversations, and behaviors, it would be mind blowing to try and comprehend the network that it would require.

Then add to that the number of stars in the universe (A wild guess of 200 billion trillion), and the planets around those stars (1 with 24 zeroes), each with their own dynamics to simulate, I just think that kind of computational power would be beyond anything imaginable. JMO.

The last time I checked was that 200 billion trillion equals 200,000,000,000,000,000,000. If there is such a number.

I worked a court case where the prosecutor told the jury that my client’s DNA was found on the deceased’s body with nine hundred trillion to one probability. And I thought that was a big number.

Yeah, here's where I got it from, but how would anyone really know. I think they estimate the number of stars in the Milky Way, and then estimate the number of Galaxies in the universe, and then do the math. The estimate could be billions off, but no matter, it's one helluva lot of stars.

Did you make your coffee too strong this mornin?:ROFLMAO:

I never fully understood the red pill/blue pill thing. I guess it's movie metaphor. You can see the truth when they unplug you from the machine. Is the pill really necessary? I haven't had more than my usual amount of coffee this morning, so I'm not sure why I'm bothering to make this an issue.

I took that movie as a metaphor (if thats the right word). Its suggesting that everything about our society is a man made construct and that if you look through the bullshit and the smoke and mirrors, you'll find that nothing can really hurt you. The movie was very popular with those who feel victimized by society.

The same idea behind the Wizard of Oz.
But they turned the idea into a SciFi action movie to make it more engaging and give it a false sense of complexity. (And a chance to make sequels).

We have red and blue states politically. Could that be the reason for the pill colors?

I'd have to look at the evidence. From what I know, this is another of those esoteric philosophical, discussions had by people much smarter than I am.

I do know that the universe exists under a set of rules, and we're seeking to know what those rules/conditions are. Some see this list of rules as design, and therefore points to a God. But I see it as simply a set of rules, and if the rules were different, things would simply be different.

Still, there are many theories.. Are we on a prison planet? Is this hell? Do we reincarnate? Are we existing in pods? Are we just a computer simulation?

These are imponderables, and trying to get a knowledge of many of them takes a deep look. I believe we're part of nature, and natures rules are derived from those of the universe. The rules didn't come from anywhere, they just are. I believe this because of the available evidence. However, if other evidence that is contrary comes about, then I'd change to the new knowledge.

Since 1977, I've been trying to get a handle on 'The Force', a mysterious energy field created by life that binds the galaxy together.
Now they throw 'The Matrix' at me.

Guess I'll just stick with The Norse Cosmology I learn many years ago, since it's been around longer than both those others.
