The most important lesson

That happiness really IS more important than money. Of course, if I can have happiness AND money, I wouldn't complain......
The old saw about money can't buy happiness has some truth to it, observation makes that clear. What money can help with is a degree of physical security like substantial roof overhead, sufficient nutrition, and time/energy for pursuits that help with physical, mental and emotional well-being-- including being willing share any 'excess' wealth instead just buying more things.

It can't guarantee good health but it can--
reduce the daily concerns that are stressors which make one more susceptible to some kinds of illnesses. Constant stress not only makes one more vulnerable to illness but can make most any illness worse.
AND
Reduce or in some cases remove the additional complicating stressors of becoming injured or ill. The wealthy don't have to worry about treatment and/or the costs of final arrangements making their families poor.

Learned that if I can't control an outcome to let it go, letting go the stress out of life.
