wow that is depressing but I think it happens more often then we ever really know ...... medical personal that help nature along often elderly or those with serious conditions.... no real way to catch all of the possible homicides since many are determined to pass from whatever ailment they are hospitalized with.

There is another category of medical personnel who kill. Many people are drawn to the medical profession because they enjoy seeing people suffer. And when they don't see enough, they can easily create their own.
Schadenfreude (shaa-duhn-froy-duh), which literally translates from German as ‘harm-joy’, is the strange pleasure that we experience in response to another person’s misfortune.

I guess it depends on how you count them, Luis Garavito may have killed more. He confessed to and was convicted of the rape, torture, mutilation and murder of 147 minors. However he may really have killed more than 300.

Although sentenced to 1,853 years in prison this was reduced to 22 years. He should be eligible for parole next year. Let's hope Ecuador's prisons are better at reforming murders than ours...

Somewhat like Munchausen, where parents (often female nurses) kill their own children for attention. :(

Yes. I think that's called "Munchausen by proxy." They intentionally make their children sick to get sympathy.
