The most respected person ( not celebrity) role model in your life

For me it was 2 of my aunts and my granny. One my father's sister & the other my uncle's wife.

My fathers sister was very frugal. She worked a farm most of her life. She worked as hard as any man and twice as hard as most men. I never saw her having any sort of vulgar behavior or language. She was a Christian woman, but she never preached at people trying to stuff her beliefs down someone's throat. She did all kinds of charitable things. Things that take personal involvement, love, and sacrifice. She did the raising of us while my father was still unmarried in the service. I can tell you she was patient and loving and a wonderful 'fill in' for a mom. I never saw her just sitting there doing nothing. She was always busy even resting in the evening she would be sewing, writing a letter, crocheting..never just sitting. She is very close to one hundred and still taking care of herself & doing her own cooking and cleaning. Amazing woman.

My uncles wife. She was a nurse and a very nurturing woman. She was very very classy. She adored children and did a lot of charity work with children.

My granny. The local newspaper where my granny lived once ran a piece titled 'She did it all on her own' about my granny. She was a very strong high spirited woman. She had been a pioneer of that area and had a hard life. She raised 6 kids alone during the depression. She was very very intelligent & loved to argue politics with men. Back then not that many women did that so it stuck out to me. She used to tell me something that stuck with me. She said " A person isn't what they claim to be, it's what they say and do and how good they are to others."

All of these women are so far above me in style and behavior I'm ashamed to say. When I think of them I feel I let them down not being even half as good.

Who were your personal role models in your life you admire? It doesn't need to be a relative. ..just someone you knew

I believe my aunt and uncle ,whom. Lived with for a couple of years as a small child ,had a huge influence on me ....I grew up in a family of alcoholics ( My aunt and uncle didn't drink or smoke) I'm the only one of 8 Children who Never took up smoking or drinking and I truly believe my time living with my Aunt and uncle had that influence on me ..

I truly believe Good online friends" can have a good influence on a person as well,I have a couple of close geninue online friends ,and they put a huge smile on my face every time I "talk" to them :)

My maternal grandmother. She came to this country from Europe in 1912. She didn't speak English. She learned quickly and went to school. By the 1920's she owned her own grocery store. The American dream for sure. I miss her still. She was my dearest most reliable friend. She's still and always will be my heroine.

My current best friend (in real life). I believe many basic personality traits are set early on in your life, but this person has kept me trying to change for the better, by setting an example, right up to yesterday.:)

My sister in law gets sainthood. She's had my brother for almost forty years. She started out as an OB nurse, then branched out and became a hospice director, raised two girls and is very close to them, juggled her large extended family in the meantime. Now she's retired and helping raise two grandbabies. A full life to say the least.

I have to say my mother, she was a strong and kind woman, I miss her very much.
