About 1950, James Arness played the monster in the movie, The Thing. I believe it was his first movie, although you never got to see him out of costume. Shortly after, Phil Harris recorded the song, The Thing. Here for you listening pleasure, , is his song.

And then there's "The Thing" at an extremely kitschy roadside attraction in Arizona. It's been drawing gullible people in for a long, long time; unfortunately, I am one of "those" people. That's $2 I'll never get back.
