The Music of our Time

I'm 72, born 1946, so I swear the best music was from 1963-1964. Just happened to be my Junior and Senior years of High School. Why do we, all, have a 'sweet spot' in music history that takes us to a happy time? If I was born a few years earlier or later, those 63-64 songs wouldn't sound so good to me.You have to wonder-were the songs really greater in that time of our lives, OR were we maturing at a time when songs meant more to us?

I was born around the time you were and I feel the same way. Growing up in my house music was playing a lot. Living in Philadelphia I remember watching bandstand everyday. Listening to music that my parents loved were from the 40's and I have to say I loved that music also. When my children were growing up I liked some of the 70's and 80's music. I really don't care for the music of today.

My parents would always say that the music during their younger years was the best. My mom danced with the soldiers either going to or returning from war at the local USO club. She would talk about all the great bands, including the swing bands. My mom taught me to dance as a teen just starting to go to dances.

My dad, OTOH, would talk about the jazz bands. He liked Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. Of course, my sister and I would laugh when mom and dad danced, but I had to admit to myself that they were good dancers.

I think we associate music with what we considered a good time in our lives where we were happy and made good memories. I love the music of the 80's, when I felt like I had the world on a string.

Great performers, thanks!

So many good memories when it comes to music. I wish I could remember all of the great songs!
