The number 1 problem the world faces in your opinion?

overpopulation

Because the human world is already well beyond a sustainable environmental balance with dominant wealth and endless growth driven cultural and societal attitudes and behaviors unlikely to change until utter disasters occur with much starvation and death, when it will be too late to escape a dystopian future.

Totally agree.

Liberalism. The idealists have been in charge for far too long, and this is the main reason why our countries are in such a mess. However, I don't doubt that the pendulum will soon swing the other way, and common sense will come to the fore.
It's also true that greed is responsible for a lot of what is happening. British businesses were closed down and manufacturing moved to China and India. Those countries have benefited financially and China is now more powerful than we are.
If only people would consider the consequences of their actions.
That's a Right wing myth, wrong on so many levels. Anyone that has even a rudimentary understanding of world economics knows who has the power & always controlled the purse strings, and who always will.
The idea that the masses have any degree of real power is wishful thinking, and an utter fairy-tale.

On how better looking people have a better looking life.

Oh... I follow you now.

I can't honestly say because I haven't experienced the flip side, but I believe I would feel the same about it. It's s tough scenario... If I were rich would I resent the poor? If I were good looking, would I resent the homely? If I were young, would I resent the aged? I can only form my opinion based on my own experience and education.

The Doomsday Clock is currently at 100 seconds. The closest it's ever been to doomsday. The resources on the planet are not being conserved and are running out. We kill animals for sport instead of the need for food. We've driven species to extinction for profit. And we use up anything that we deem necessary... because we take priority over everything else. I think if we were more in balance with the rest of the planet I might feel differently.

"What's your number one?"

The decline in education in the US. My solution would be to eliminate the US Board of Education, because they've politicized education and taken the focus away from academics to focus on social issues and actions instead. That's not what schools are for.

I agree with you about taxes. I'm in favor of a flat tax of 0 to 30 percent based on income, and totally eliminating loopholes, money-shelters, and all deductions.

Without a doubt...Overpopulation! A few years ago, a UN study predicted the Maximum "sustainable" human population would be about 6 billion people. We are already near 8 billion, should reach 9 billion by mid-century, and 12 billion by the end of this century. With automation and robotics taking over many jobs, half the population, in todays wealthier nations, may be living on welfare in another few decades. The changing climate may make food almost unaffordable for millions of the poor.

Sometime in the latter half of this century, there will be one more massive war. It will not be nation vs, nation, but the "Haves" against the "Have Nots". The population will be reduced substantially, and if the Haves win, the world will begin to unite under a common language and government, and mankind will begin a serious "reach for the stars". If the Have Nots win, humanity will revert to the Dark Ages.

None of us will live long enough to see this, but our Grandkids, and beyond, will inherit a world far different than what we know.

Overpopulation.

I went to Home Depot the other day and man what a nightmare... people everywhere you look, and they won't get out of the frickin' way! Same with King Sooper's! %$#@! It made me want to start drinking again!

But when I got back home where it's nice and peaceful, everything was fine again. Luckily, I'm able to have my groceries delivered and I've also had some things delivered from Home Depot. There are ways to get around the hassles in life when you're retired. I was just out doing some other things and decided to... oh, yeah... I had to return an item to Home Depot and had to pick up some masks from King Sooper's.

That's from an egocentric point of view. Regarding the rest of the world, it's going to be AI. It's going to take over and eliminate many jobs. It's also going to be used to commit acts of evil. We're going to see people committing murder with robots or drones, and in some cases, getting away with it.

I'd guess climate change is the biggest immediate challenge ahead, especially if something extreme and unexpected happens that affects food supplies (crops).

I don't think overpopulation is a problem as much as the excessive consumption/impact (footprint) that some portion of the populations have. There are lots of ways to conserve more without even feeling it (for example I watched a YouTube about water consumption in Los Vegas area and how there was a huge house where they use up a lot of water keeping green grass all around the property even though the owner doesn't live there and visits rarely).

AI certainly will be the way of the future and I see it eliminating many jobs and leaving people in dire poverty even in developed countries. I think this alone will correct the overpopulation problem in due course.

I fear if the Haves win, humanity is screwed while if the Have Nots win the world may return for a time to some semblance of the world we once knew where the common man actually mattered. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Exactly when was that? I don't remember that. Anyone else remember that? Are you sure it wasn't a work of fiction?
