The nurse found guilty of murdering babies

Lucy Letby. I find it extremely hard to read about this. Why on earth was there such a strong cover-up, defence and denial of her while she was allowed to continue being able to do what she did? It defies understanding, when doctors warned clearly that something was very wrong with this woman.
Oh those parents and those helpless babies. It really is the most chilling case.

It has amazed me how some people can influence other people to the extent that the people help cover up the crimes they have committed. When it comes to medical personnel, I am not one to agree with them and blindly do what they say. There have been a few times when I have not done what the doctors or nurses recommended, and I believe I am better because of it.

Actually evil is not all around us. Only Hollywood and the media is working 24/7 trying to prove to us that it is. The folks I know and hang around with are pretty nice. Oh, less news is better news! Have a nice day!

She's now officially Britain's worst Mass murderer... she will go to prison for the rest of her life. For those who don't know the British legal system... it's extremely rare for anyone to be given a whole life term... a ''life sentence '' in the UK is usually 15 years.. occasionally 25.. but they almost always only do 1/2 or 2/3rds of that sentence.

The whole life term has only been given to those particularly heinous criminals, like Jack the Ripper.. , The children killers and rapists The Moors murderers.. Denis Neilson, who killed and cannibalised Gay men... and killers like them, who will forever be a danger to society at large..

This has taken a very long time to come to court.. so the parents of these babies have suffered dreadfully for the last 7 years... not knowing if she was the one who killed their children or not..the person , and indeed the hospital who overlooked the concerns of whistleblowers... to whom the parents had entrusted their sick children..

I think Jeni simply meant that potential for evil can be anyplace and not to blindly trust someone because of their education, position or job.
yes exactly @Remy
I listen to murder podcast or watch true crime stories and it is amazing how many get away with something because a career or situation where people think it could not be them.

the problem with this particular case was senior Doctors were reporting this nurse , and seniors Hospital managers were refusing to believe she did anything wrong.. and one senior Doctor was reportedly told to apologise to the murdering nurse...

OMG. I must say, I had never heard of this case, or if I had, I don't remember. I don't think I'm going to read up on it. It's too much darkness.

I do believe that doctors would have reported and been ignored. Management of all kinds can do stuff like this and it's wrong.

Rose, is there a particular reason why you do not post links? I know sometimes using mobile devices prohibits it or makes it difficult at best. Thank you for posting the link @Jeni.

I didn't finish reading the article since it's past my bedtime and it is so disturbing. I don't understand why nothing was done sooner either. I wonder if the parents of those poor precious babies filed lawsuits or will file. Clearly they have good cause. I also didn't see if she was sentenced yet and how much time. I cannot fathom why anyone would do this to innocent babies they are charged with caring for!! She is indeed evil personified! @Naturally

Why anyone kept protecting her when babies were dying on her shifts is infuriating. Those stubborn people need holding to account.

As for her, hang her. Also 'accidentally' make sure other female prisoners get access to her in prison - I hate the thought of her living smugly and comfortably at our expense for years. I am not a violent person at all, but for crimes against children, babies, I want her to suffer. I cannot imagine the utter grief of those parents and how she must have loved causing it.

Such killers as her love the glory of notoriety. They want to be remembered. It's just evil. Hanging is the right punishment - with the parents of the babies watching.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil.
You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.
Certain truly evil ones just need putting down. They do not belong in the human race. To take the lives of small babies is the most cowardly despicable of all crimes.

Then further to the parents of the babies is this murderers' own parents.. who are devastated by the actions of their only child.. She, by all accounts is the love of their lives having had her later in life.. ,, and their world revolves around her..

In fact when the police came to arrest her, her mother threw herself in front of her Daughter, and proclaimed that she should be taken in place of her daughter.. that she the mother was in fact the murderer... she desperately wanted to protect her child...

However I would imagine this type of behaviour is what went a long way to create Letby's actions.. having never had to face the consequence of her actions growing up...

You couldn’t be more wrong about anything. We live in a very dangerous world where even those we believe to be completely pure and good have committed some of the most heinous of crimes.

I don’t know a lot about Lucy Letbe because she was a British serial killer of babies and I never heard of this case until after it was resolved. I only know what I and everyone else have read, but it does go to show us all that anyone that can kill innocent babies that cannot protect themselves is pure evil.

I wrote a story on this forum just a few days ago about a 17 y/o boy named Alec Kreider that killed his best friend’s parent and then his best friend. This kid never showed any signs of being evil, but it goes to show us, no one is incapable of being evil. He lived next door to his victims.

We had a murder maybe 15 years ago where a mortician killed his wife. He was known in the community as a very kind and righteous person. One night, he drowned her in their swimming pool and tried to make it look like an accident. There were just too many amateur mistakes and between the police and the coroner, the truth came out. He had a girlfriend and needed to get rid of his wife. It only took about 3 days to solve this case. People are evil. We see it everyday on TV.

I was a patient in the same hospitals as Nurse Charles Cullen, worked, suspected of murdering close to 400 patients. The problem is Cullen had the opportunity to kill his patients, but just having the opportunity does not mean you have proof he did anything- especially in a court of law. Yes, he was suspected of killing his patients, but there was never enough evidence to prove he did it. That is until, he confessed to a coworker. I can understand hospitals being reluctant to call someone a murderer, when there's little evidence to back that up.

That's right; we see it on TV everyday. It's nice that I don't live on TV. I hang around with some really nice people that wouldn't hurt a pussycat. Guess I am lucky? I don't live with or know any of the criminally insane or axe murders out there. My friends are either working for a living or happily retired. I even say "good morning" to folks in my elevator and no one tries to kill me. I also go for a walk in my city 5 days/week and so far no one has tried to shot me nor have they tried to knife me. Life is what you make it and so far, I'm OK! Have a nice day!

A senior consultant who tried to blow the whistle on Lucy Letby said doctors felt 'intimidated' by hospital bosses who discouraged them from going to police.

Dr John Gibbs, who has since retired, said managers 'closed their minds' too soon to the possibility that Lucy Letby was killing or harming babies on the neonatal unit.

He told the Mail that he was 'shocked' when chief executive Tony Chambers called the hospital's seven consultant paediatricians to a meeting, in January 2017, and told them Letby had not done anything wrong.

The hospital boss even ordered medics to write a letter of apology to the nurse.

By this stage Letby, 33, had been working in an office job at the hospital for seven months, having been removed following the death of two triplets on consecutive shifts in June 2016.

She was hoping to return to the unit after an internal grievance apparently found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Dr Gibbs said he felt intimidated by Mr Chambers, who told the consultants at the meeting that he was 'drawing a line' under the matter.

Dr Gibbs's colleague, Dr Stephen Brearey, told the BBC that medics were warned there would be 'consequences,' if they refused to write the apology.

Dr Gibbs said: 'There was a difficult meeting at the end of January 2017 where all us paediatricians met with senior managers, including the chief executive, the director of nursing and the medical director.

'We were told how stressful this had all been for Lucy Letby and a letter from her was read out explaining how unfair we paediatricians had been.

'We were told the chief executive had met with her and her father and we were told to write a letter of apology to Lucy Letby.

'It seemed inappropriate, but the whole of the meeting shocked me. At the end, I remember the chief executive saying he was drawing a line under this issue and he ran his finger across the desk. He looked at all of us and said: "Do you understand?" I did feel, to some extent, intimidated.'

He said the consultants wrote the letter of apology, but added: 'We didn't feel it was justified.
