This isnt my first house. When we were first married we lived in older rentals. I also grew up in them so I was familiar with old houses.
Then we bought our first house. A city house. A big Victorian four square built in 1900. It was a great house.
Original woodwork and floors. Pocket doors and stained glass windows. We got it REALLY cheap from some hippie.
No one would even look at it because it was literally infested with fleas. When you walked in they would attack you and bite you from your knees to your ankles. He had also wallpapered all the downstairs ceilings with the Sunday funnies. The foyer had silver foil wallpaper with large flowers. We evicted the fleas and removed the Sunday funnies. Kept the silver wallpaper. After we added our rolltop desk and hall tree and other antique furniture it fit right in.
I would have stayed but the husband wanted to live out in the country. Our second house was a hateful money pit built in 1901.
The husband was not handy. Less said the better. Worst of all it took an hour and a half to get to work in the winter.
And then I found our present house and we moved. End of story so far.
