As a cranky old cuss I can only think of a Monty Python scenario, where the poor in their rags and crooked teeth and diseases and caved-in stomachs growling... line the grand boulevard cheering as some royal party or other parades through in great finery thinking "I so despise the poor."

I guess I was just raised differently. It isn't many generations since my forebears left crushing conditions as little more than serfs in Europe for a country where no man has to kneel before tyrants.

No offense, I'm sure she's a nice and a charitable person. But she is also a living symbol of inequality. I don't expect that to make sense to a European, but I'm ashamed to see Americans fawning over this display.

you mean like your president and his family ?

Catherine has always struck me as a lovely woman/wife/mother/royal in temperament, dress and appearance.

Americans have no similar icons. The Kennedys came closest, and their feet of clay have been fodder for supermarket checkstand yellow-journalism "newspapers" even before Ted's 1969 "swim" in the Chappaquiddick.

Although it's sometimes difficult for Americans to fully understand the UK's relationship with the royal family, most appreciate that it's a part of your culture that you hold dear, and we hold you dear, therefore we enjoy watching some of the pomp and circumstance.

In my opinion, it's rude and uncalled for to cast aspersions on other countries' traditions, unless what they're doing is actually damaging to humans, animals or the environment. This is truly a case of, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." (I'm looking at you, @dilettante.)

Actually, since the Queen died, every video I see, there certainly isn't much in the way of curtsying these days. I don't think the younger generation cares much about all that anymore.

When I was a child, in this good old USA, I was taught to curtsy to my elders when meeting them. It stopped when I started school, so, I simply figured it was just a form of respect and nothing more.

Every time I see her, I can't help but think of my late friend Becky. Becky was a light skinned Black woman but she and Kate could have passed for twins! Same dimples, same nose, same smile and Becky was definitely thought to be a beauty.

Catherine is beautiful, she's elegant and carries herself so well. I didn't realize that she is that tall. I think she looks great in all of the outfits picuted in this thread; especially the bright colors. She's stunning in her gowns. I'm puzzled, however, as to why she wore a blue hat with the first outfit in the OP.

Reading between the lines of your post I do understand your argument. A monarchy underpins class discrimination, all societies have socio-economic classes, monarchs tend to make them more visible.

During the Middle Ages, in England, as in most of Europe, the feudal system was the dominant social and economic system. Under the feudal system, the monarch would grant land to the monarch’s loyal subjects in exchange for the subject’s loyalty and military service when called by the monarch. Besides grants of land, these subjects were usually given titles that implied nobility and rank, such as Duke, Earl, Baron, and so on, which were passed down through the holder’s male line.

Imperial titles and rank still persist to this day and will go on doing so whilst we have a monarch. That said, there is a considerable minority in our country that finds both monarchy and the class system unpalatable, but most of us are realists. The Monarchy is a huge tourist draw, there's many a diehard republic supporter in the crowds that enjoy the pomp and processions that is such a spectacle of a Monarchy.

The Princess of Wales was once simply known as Kate Middleton, from a middle class family, just as Prince William's mother was Diana Spencer, although her family were much higher up the pecking order. The fact that having a Monarchy underpins a class system doesn't bother the majority of British people, so for those of us who would prefer our system classless, it's best really to shut up and put up, because it's against the flow and it ain't going to happen.
