"They", whoever they are, are wrong, very wrong.

What I have witnessed over the past 4 days is power, Magical Power.

Most of us have never seen her in the flesh, nor have we spoken to her,
yet we all love her and get emotional at these anniversaries, she has kept
the United Kingdom together, plus 54 Commonwealth countries content,
they sent representatives to celebrate this Jubilee in honour of her length
of service and devotion to the people.

There were people from other countries around the World, not commonwealth,
ones, some people interviewed from the bystanders watching the proceedings,
were, American, from the USA, American from South America, Europeans, from
several countries, too numerous to name, Every one said what a fantastic person
the Queen is and they all spoke as if she was their own Queen, that takes some
doing.

So, I have witnessed a 4-day miracle here on the TV, so much love for a woman
that none of us really knows, except by the way she conducts herself in public
and never speaks in public too often.

I think what is meant by that is Parliamentary Power.
She certainly has people power, great respect and admiration.

Not every person in the UK respects the Queen. There are thousands of members of anti Monarchy groups. The hard core trade unionists and the leftists certainly don't "love the Queen ". JimB.

Those anti-monarchy tags do not sit comfortably with me. My own preference has always been towards a republic, reason for that is anyone can aspire, if not achieve, the president/head honcho status, whereas a monarch gets there by landing in the right womb at the right time.

Hardly democratic I would have thought.

Amen!

Articles have been published which indicate, very clearly, that the Royal Family, while not direct players in the political arena, have had enormous influence on the affairs of the British government.

But, you know, all extremely wealthy people do that. And I don't know that the Royal Family did that any more than any other extremely wealthy person / family in the UK.

Just, generally, the way it has been, all over the world.

And I don't just mean in some kind of conspiratorial, dark vision of things. Some of that influence is entirely for the welfare of the country. So, in that sense, if some real estate developers decide on some project to buy some of the old castles of England and turn them into cheap hotels....you know, maybe the Royals would step in and shut that project down...to, you know, keep the history alive.

Speaking of which, I think the British have been a lot better at preserving than history than us in America.

I grew up around the corner of a colonial era house. I think it dated back to 1750. Then, in the 90s, they just moved it. I mean, at least they didn't destroy it. But why move it? Someone should have raised the money to make it a historical site and keep it there.

We also had the Meeker Inn in our town. They got rid of it in the 1920s. It had been a tavern, also since the 1750s. Washington headquarted in Elizabeth for a day. At that time, Elizabeth was part of this town. And yes, he was at the Meeker Inn.

I think they should have kept it there. Turned it into a bank.
