The Radio

I listen to an oldies rock station, but the last few times I've been in the car, have been filled with commercials. I'm usually driving only 6 minutes, round trip, to take my son to work. For 6 minutes, I'd rather do anything than listen to commercials.

Internet radio is killing commercial FM broadcast radio but the sound quality is inferior. Vastly superior and expensive vintage analog FM tuners with slide rule dials are leaving todays digital tuners in the dust. AM for all intents and purposes is already dead. AM stereo which was supposed to compete with FM stereo radio was a complete and total failure.

I lived in Boulder in the late '80s and listened to KBCO. It was a good station until they got bought up by a giant media conglomerate and started playing more commercials than music. They had a unique format until that point. I think it was Clear Channel Entertainment that bought them and subsequently introduced KBCO's format to cities across the country, at which time you could go to any major (and many minor) city from coast to coast and listen to the same thing as if you never left home. Gone were the unique stations based on the local culture. Even DJs became national. A radio station in St. Louis might use a syndicated pair of DJs that recorded a few local bits to make it seem like they were local but were actually broadcasting out of Los Angeles.
I don't know anything about the back story of the station, but don't doubt what you say. Regardless, compared to all the others, this is the best to listen to in Colorado, in my opinion. I don't listen to it very much, but will tune in sometime while driving around town if nothing else interesting is on the radio at the time. I think a lot of times they play 26 songs in a row, commercial free. The 80s was a long time ago, and definitely the quality of many things in entertainment has gone downhill.

For years I had CBC radio on almost all day. On Saturday night we’d sit and listen to Randy Bachman’s Vinyl Tap while reading. In the car, I have it on; a few times I listen to a local station. For years when I lived in a rural area, CBC kept me company and somewhat sane. Now I listen to podcasts.

They do play 50's and 60's music here.. I listen to Radio 2 , and that's 75 % older music since the 60's... ..

I usually only listen in my car, but occasionally I'll get my Google Home Hub to play the channel while I'm sitting here at my desk...
In the past I listened at home and in the car. Now I listen in the car.

What do you listen to? They don’t play music from the 50s and 60s anymore, at least not here; current music does not appeal to me, so all that’s left is talk radio. We have two talk stations that are political most of the time but not always. There’s also sports talk which I listen to once in a while.
Very rarely. Haven't listened to talk radio since my kids were still at home and I had radio on in the mornings while making sure they were ready for school on time.
I also learned as far as music goes, this area doesn't have anything I like. Very rarely I have it on while cleaning (background noise + keeping track of time) but they don't seem to grasp the Oldies category and have all kinds of junk playing.

In the distant past I regularly listened to Norm N. Nite, Doctor Demento, and a station that played full albums.
My favorite by far, though, was KRLA- The Heart & Soul of Rock'n'Roll- broadcast from Pasadena.

I listen to WWFM which plays classical music, while I am working in the kitchen. I change to something else when they play opera, though. I mostly listen to music I have changed to digital format on my Walkman with earphones.

Just curious to the definition of Talk Radio.

Does this mean a couple of hosts chatting and people calling in to talk also?

Or is it a host interviewing someone, usually recorded. A variety of shows or news programs?

A host will discuss topics with callers and will sometimes do interviews too.

Talk radio a/k/a dialog radio is AM in nature has very little breaking news alerts and focuses on op/ed pieces, interviews mainly political, religious in nature, etc, etc with adverts supporting the subject issue at the time. AM talk radio is very popular with travelers at night and DXérs.

I only listen to the radio when I am in my car.
I listen to Station 585 am News Radio.
24 hour news from around the world. This station also broadcasts Parliament on sitting days. If what is being discussed is boring to me I switch to 1080 am. This channel plays music from the 60's - 70's and 80's.
