Years ago when I had a house a feral cat would leave half eaten rats on our doorsteps. My next door neighbor and I would have them weekly. After a few months it stopped and we never saw the cat around again. I was very glad when the presents stopped.

My cat used to do that with me years ago. Bring me gifts of dead animals at our back deck. Yuck!

So, let me get this straight! :unsure:

1000 cats have been released into the city to kill and devour countless, probably millions of rats, OK? (y)

If all goes to plan, then at some point in the future the cats will have killed and eaten (or half eaten) the plague of rats. (y)

The city would then have another problem, a 1000 overweight cats the size of elephants lolling about, blocking the roads with their fat ar**s and leaving mountains of cats**t all over the place. :(

Then the city would have to emply an army of men with huge wheelbarrows to shift the overweight moggies and hide them, the Grand Canyon might be a good location. :)
 
After much needed rain that broke the drought, it's produced a mouse plague in the country that is driving farmers crazy.

When I was around 15, we had a cat that killed everything he found outside & brought it in the house.
I was sleeping around 5am & I woke up to something warm & sticky in my hand. I turned on the light above my bed & there was a squirrel's head in my hand - with the esophagus still attached. 🐿️

I think it is horrible. Even if some people put out other food for them.Even neutered cats can get painfully ill, have accidents, get run over, poisoned, attacked by feral dogs, get rabies and other diseases, starve, lack clean drinking water, be trapped by people who want them as bait for illegal dog fighting, and what about Chicago winters?
Insufferably cruel.

I don't think being neutered has any effect on them. All our cats were neutered & they still killed any animal they found outside.
And my Yellow Lab was already neutered when I adopted him. He had a great time with my sister's intact female Lab every few months. I asked the Vet about that because I thought a neutered animal wouldn't be interested in sex or couldn't have sex. He explained, "No; it has no effect on their desire or ability; it just prevents him from impregnating her - like a Vasectomy."

These were unadoptable animals.

According to the article:

The shelter rescues cats and some that would never become pets because they are too wild are neutered or spayed and then returned to roam the streets.

“Cats are placed two or three at a time into residential or commercial settings in order to provide environmentally friendly rodent control,” the shelter said. “Property and business owners provide food, water, shelter, and wellness to the cats who work for them. In most cases, our Cats at Work become beloved members of the family or team and some even have their own Instagram pages.”

That's very strange, doesn't match my experiences at all with cats, dogs, or horses. The only dog I had that kept humping turned out to have retained testicles that had been missed by a very poor job of neutering. Didn't learn about it until he had his 'senior physical', he was too old to try to do anything about it, but it sure explained so much!

Well, whoever neutered my Lab did a thorough job; people would ask me whether he was male or female because they couldn't tell. 😁
