The REAL reason people retire.

I was under the delusion that after a life time of hard work people earned the right to have some "golden years". But that's a dirty lie. Monday the cable guy was here. Tuesday, the furnace guy. Today, the washing machine doesn't want to drain. The real reason people retire is to have someone at home when the repair guy comes, and to keep repairmen in the style to which they have become accustomed. Repairmen are quite exact about the time they will show up, say 10:30 on Fri. Translated that means somewhere between Thursday and Tuesday. Of course, someone has to be at the residence-thus someone on 24 hour watch, or more commonly called a "retired person". I HAVE TO CUT THIS SHORT. HE'S HERE FOR HIS CHECK.
 

Oh yes I was just saying the same thing.. For the last 7 days I have been busy working painting fence panels, and mowing lawns and lopping trees and chopping them into logs ..or shopping or cleaning the house or cooking or feeding the birds and cleaning out the bird feeders and the bird fountain... or having to be home for a delivery... , or being a taxi driver for certain people...
Day before yesterday I twisted my ankle while outside painting...needed to rest it, but today I had to drive to 3 different towns to deal with several different issues , and then collect a bunch of hardware stuff, and load it in my car... then I get home hauling all the stuff out the car, tired and hot and my neighbour and her gardener want to have a chat about the latest political situation....:eek:

Before I took retirement I worked a 10 hour day.. I don't feel like anything has changed some days..

I am the opposite of the hollydolly post. Since my retirement I have been mistaken for a corpse and a manikin and a slab of bacon on several occasions. I have exchanged marital vows with my bed and couch. I consider housework and yardwork tops among the seven deadly sins. I have invested heavily in my perspiration because it is now more rare than diamonds and gold. Koala bears are said to sleep 22 hours/day. I am having a Koala transplant procedure next month. Life is gooderester than ever. ;)
 

I differ here lol I love being retired even though ime not that age too- but when we moved to the sticks
I had to give up my job which I did love and miss it --but having not to get out of the bed early is sheer bliss
do what I want now ' please myself =like to potter it's all a new thing to me ..even growing veg ' chores I dont mind as we bought barn conversion low level' no dam stairs to climb so ime happy with this new retiring thingy …………………………...

Hahaha!! I know exactly what you mean. It's just not fair, is it? We just bought our house, and it's a cute little place, but unbelievable how many people we had to deal with. The worst were the painters. Nice guys, but you should see how splattered this place is, after spending about 2K. And we had to sit and watch the paint dry.

thats what i said toffee,when hubby retired aged 50 , 26 yrs ago..and i was 38........we loved it....but you never know, whats around the corner !! 😟😭

Charry I didn't wait... I took early retirment summer before last at 62... I just had various health issues caused by working such long hours .... I have another 2 years before I can claim my pension, and much as I miss going out to work, I think 47 working years was enough, and I'll just stay home and give my body a rest.. ☺
 
In my situation,coming home at the end of the week emotionally&physically exhausted took its toll on me. I worked 27 yrs, 3 days/wk at local hospital as pharm tech delivering narcotics to all the nursing units/speciality floors. It was alot of bending/lifting/walking paperwork,I had enough. I was happy I could take early retirement in 2011 I'm more busy now but at a leisurely pace doing the things I love to do
 
I retired early at 62. Burnt Out.
Then I sat in the recliner for a few months just being still. After that I was bored.
Trained for a year walking with a backpack and went on the Camino de Santiago.
The walk was my transition into retirement happiness.
