The secrets of long life

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I am thanking God and my mother every morning for being able to enjoy one more great day.

At 87+ I am walking daily with my Boxer dogs 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. I am trying to do everything right to make it to 100.

I have a wife who cooks very healthy; yes, only Olive oil, plenty of fruits, vegetables and fish; never junk or fast food;

Having kids and grandchildren with whom I am in touch almost daily.

I am hooked on nutritional supplements, and especially on anti-oxidants to keep inflammation of the body to a minimum, as measured by the C-Reactive Protein Test. It should be <7 but I am always around 1 (my doctor double-checked because he couldn't believe it.) Inflammation is the root cause of so many health problems.

I have no real problems to worry about besides being a bit over-weight. Life is as good as I can reasonably expect it to be. No, I don't want to be a millionaire. I am happy with my life and am grateful for what I have.

OK, I had a dozen surgeries, including 3 for cancer. Some of my tendons in my right shoulder are torn loose, and MRI's showed damage to tendons and muscles in my left hip, etc. But all that doesn't prevent me for carrying on with a normal life. My orthopedic surgeon assured me that health wise I am on the top of guys my age.

I like your supplement list. It's a lot but reasonable choices.

I'm 88 and do NOT drink alcohol, smoke nicotine or eat chocolates, meat or candy. I only eat veggies, fruit, fish and fowl. I walk 2 to 3 miles every day. I accept all pain, impairments and even death since I can only do that and be happy. I've only had 1 wife of 63 years. She is age 84. I play chess at Chess.com every day and play Civilization VI against the artificial intelligence level 1 of 8 to insure I win every game each of which lasts 6 months to 1 year. I have 2 kids, 6 grandkids, and 3 great grandkids. Finally, I am a stay at home since my honeymoon I have never gone on a vacation. My doctor just examined me today and predicted I would die at 95 and there is nothing he can do to have me live longer. I retired from a municipal government and live on my 6 figure annual pension I will receive for life.

I only have one question. You were a government employee and you got a 6 figure pension???

Is this the same doctor who told you a couple of weeks ago that you'd die in "less than a year," Mitch?! I'm a bit lost... and confused. :confused:

Yes, it's the same doctor. I presume his judgement is affected by how good or bad his sleep was the day before he gives me prognostications. As of TODAY, I am still alive and able to operate this PC.

Well then I sincerely hope his "95" prediction was right, and not his "less than a year." I have to say here that if a doctor would do that to me... or even throw a time limit at me at all, I'd be doctor shopping real fast. Are they even supposed to do that?!

Evidently that mortality software exists. My doctor is not the only one who uses it. At 88 I couldn't live much longer anyway. Of course, the nearer we get to death and the older we get makes it easier for doctors to predict the day of death with the new software. At age 88 it gets simpler and, if one was 98, it would even be easier.

If one is suffering from heart disease or cancer, it must be very easy to predict the day of death.

By the way, I was referred by my doctor to Vitas HOSPICE in October, 2018. Their nurses came to my house 24/7 and their doctor was sure I would die in 1 week. Evidently, they were also wrong!
