The smell of childhood

We were much more in tune with the smells of outdoors. The smell of approaching rain and the difference after the rain. Pine on a hot day. Distant forest fire. The ocean from a mile away. A campfire. Honeysuckle. Freshly mowed grass. A bakery. A steakhouse. A stable. Newly turned soil. A barn. A silo. dinner preparation. A baseball glove. Clean sheets on the line and so on.
Our senses were sharp, bodies healthy and minds wanted to learn. Life was exciting. I used to be giddy about everything as a little girl, everything was a new experience.

Old Canvas.

Laying awake inside a tent trying to sleep, but too excited thinking of what the next day will bring while camping.
The canvas smell of my old Boy Scout Pack.
Later on, the smell of the wet canvas cover on my first sailboat.
