The Truth, as a basis of reality

Not quite sure where this thread is going. Please help me out if I'm going off on a tangent.

I'm thinking in a way, rose tinted glasses, but maybe in this way.

Wearing Tinted Glasses of Negativity.

Suggests someone's perception of reality is clouded by negative thoughts, causing them to interpret situations, and people in a pessimistic or negative way. When reality might not be as negative as they perceive it to be.

Federal Rules of Evidence:

Rule 603. Oath or Affirmation to Testify Truthfully

Before testifying, a witness must give an oath or affirmation to testify truthfully. It must be in a form designed to impress that duty on the witness’s conscience.

Definition:
How does truth relate to reality?

Truth is the property of being in accord with fact or reality.
So...?... I don't think my brain has warmed up yet. And that's the truth!

So, something is considered true when it aligns with the actual state of something or the 'objective' reality?

In everyday language, truth is typically ascribed to things that aim to represent reality or otherwise correspond to it, such as beliefs, propositions, and declarative sentences.
I think I see that in everyday language, as it is put. But I don't think it is necessarily correct. At the moment that is. Although I'm open to being persuaded otherwise.

Truth is usually held to be the opposite of falsehood.
Seems reasonable.

If it's said that lies get halfway around the world before the truth gets a chance to put its pants on, or words to that effect. Could we also sometimes say, the truth is already out there, at times being chased and beaten down by lies? Based on wrong perceptions? Or something more sinister?

The truth is fact based, perceptions are in the realm of opinions. Just because our "reality" is being flooded by lies(media, internet) doesn't mean the truth is diminished.
Saying that, the truth is its own entity, and always will be, and with always exist. Regardless of the complexities of anything else to the contrary.

Yes! Some people doubt the existence of the truth, trying to justify their on perceptions. But, Truth(AKA Reality) is...what it is, our individual sensory & perceptual systems see and interpret bits and pieces of the Truth's totality.

I'm toying with the thought of, is 'truth' reality, and is 'reality' truth? It might depend on the context.

It might be true that someone sincerely believes something, but the reality is different. Is reality, even when changing, the 'truth'? Does truth have many different contexts? What then does 'truth' really mean?

I'm also toying with the idea of going to bed before my brain shuts down for the night. It seems pretty close to shutting down

Some courageous individuals I have known have faced difficulties due to specific types of illnesses and, at times, can't help but lie. Their journey and how they navigate and cope with it seem to me to be courageous.
Illnesses. Difficulties. Journeys. I thought we were talking about truth. There is no honorable excuse for a lie. Just be silent. If you lie, face it, you're a liar. You're a low-down, double-dog liar, no offense.

People who are afraid of the truth, lie.
They live in a web so intricate even a spider cannot find it's way out.
Yep, I get flack because I tell it as it is.
However, the upside of that is:
I sleep like a baby with zilch on my mind.
I am happy.
I am healthy.
So for me, telling the truth is critical.

The truth is the truth... that is the reality.
Tell it at all costs.
Do not hide behind a curtain of lies.

According to a 19th century legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day. The Lie says to the Truth: "It's a marvellous day today"! The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well.
The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They undress and start bathing. Suddenly, the Lie comes out of the water, puts on the clothes of the Truth and runs away.
The furious Truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and to get her clothes back. The World, seeing the Truth naked, turns its gaze away, with contempt and rage.

The poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding therein, in shame. Since then, the Lie travels around the world, dressed as the Truth, satisfying the needs of society, because, the World, in any case, harbours no wish at all to meet the naked Truth.

I can't help thinking back to the post in the Should women be allowed to go topless tread, where you said to me that you are ignoring me, and you hope that I have the good sense to ignore you. Did something change that I wasn't made aware of?

In the context of this thread, what is hiding behind a curtain of lies, as you put it

Do not clutch at straws... you may not have noticed but this is a different thread.

The topic is "truth" not female breasts. Get things into context please!! Are you afraid of my truths?

Beautifully put.

Then what I point out wasn't made clear by you at the time.

No straws are or were being clutched

Groupthink, what is it and why is it bad?
Well it is a dangerous phenomenon when a group of people just follow a leader.
Critical thinking is too hard for some, so the easy way out is to leave it to the leader or a miniscule majority.
Remember George Orwell’s novel 1984? A good example of the pitfalls of groupthink.
Follow the leader was a fun child’s game… not suitable for adults.
Truth or reality are not the concern of Groupthink!

:) There is a difference as wide as the moon between a lie and an untruth. Most of us honestly believe we're telling the truth. Unfortunately, we're not.

Some truths and lies can be so interwoven, in that then the truth can't be seen from the lies. At times there is no gap between the two. Sometimes they might seem to be the same due to their interwoven closeness.

I would say at times there seems to be some groupthink in this forum. I know there is, I can see it, as well as some others. The evidence-based truth I see is very different from the group think. I say that because I've seen it in many forums. Many working groups too.

I see it outside of the group too. It seems to be everywhere

UPDATE: would you say that at times, groupthink might start and end without a leader? Groupthink, at times, can be born out of people wanting to avoid conflict. Self suppression of voicing opinions. Self censorship even.
