The UN wants to come in and regulate the United States next.

In Detroit, about half of the people are at least two months behind on their water bill, and have either had their water turned off, or are about to have it turned off. The UN says that people have a right to drinking water, and that the United States is in violation of an international regulation. They also are saying that if it turns out that the majority of the people whose water is being shut off are minority races, then it is also racial discrimination. So, no matter if the population of Detroit is mainly black people, and half of the people are not paying their water bill. which would obviously make it mostly black people not paying, it will still be counted as racial discrimination by the United Nations.
We see more people reporting the white UN vehicles here in the US all the time, so it is entirely possible that they will be involved with the City of Detroit before long.

Another thing that was interesting about this, is Detroit is turning off water in peoples homes, but not in commercial accounts, even though some of them owe thousands (and even millions) of dollars in back water bills. So, maybe the UN has a point, after all. ...

If the UN actually does something the floodgates will open further.

I understand people didn't pay their bill to a business or water utility. But all of the utilities have to realize they are conducting business on public property. The pipes and wires that run underneath the streets and hooked to poles in the air are on public rights of ways for the most part. The public or customers should be cut a lot of breaks when it comes to paying their bill especially if there isn't competition to go to. The utilities are there for the public benefit-not profit. Where else is a water company customer going to go to. At least with cell phones or cable there are alternatives but they use and benefit on public rights of way as well. They should try limiting use or giving customers extra time to pay with no penalty but I must admit other than heat in the winter water is the most important thing there. It's not just about watering a lawn , washing a car it's about good sanitation and hygene.

I'd rathter see a US citizenS pay their bill than the UN come in because that would be precedent setting. With all the aide we've given the UN and all the missions we've done for th UN maybe it is time to get payback from the UN because without us they would fall apart in many parts of the world. But I'd rather see the UN forgoe some money the US normally gives them then the government could pay the existing bill. But something has to be done long term.
 

Whatinthe, My husband worked 30 years in customer service and communications for the water department of Houston. And he said that information was down played by the city officials. Bad for business.
 
Given the realities that exist in Detroit today, maybe they should cut these people some slack. Cutting off their water & causing even more people to flee the city doesn't seem like a good way to solve their problems.

Well we could send in the troops and save big bucks from flying them overseas to wars all the time.
Detroit is right down the street.

Or maybe we could save money on the troops and just drop a tactical nuke on top of Michigan Central Station ...
