The Velvet Sundown - Half AI and half human band

The "band" has racked up over a million listeners a month on spotify, but remains somewhat of a mystery being "Not quite human, and not quite machine".
The Spotify description reads: "The Velvet Sundown is a synthetic music project guided by human creative direction, and composed, voiced, and visualized with the support of artificial intelligence."

That being said, it seems there is no record of the band ever performing anywhere live. Apparently AI generated music is not allowed a copyright, but if there is sufficient human involvement, then the lines get blurred. I tried to listen with an open mind, and I gotta say, AI or not, I thought it was pretty good, but that's just my taste. Here's a sample:

This is an interesting thread to me, because back on July 3rd, I posted that same song and there were no reactions, so I assumed no one liked it but me - but I personally think the song is very good.

When I posted it, I may have been incorrect in describing them as a "totally fake AI generated band," since your thread says "Half AI and half human band."

Recently I heard one that was 100% AI and it was pretty good too.

After these songs are released they get the bots to listen so they have huge numbers of hits. That positive feedback encourages people that don’t know to buy or listen too.

Yeah, it does bring up questions because sometimes the truth is hard to lock down these days.
AI is great at writing lyrics and poetry, but how can you prove it wasn't lyrics that came from your head.
Music is similar, however, everything AI creates is based on elements of previous works, and as such, those elements may be protected under copyright. It can be difficult to prove though.

I remember back when the song Blurred Lines came out, and eventually Robin Thicke was sued by Marvin Gaye's estate because it sounded like "Got To Give It Up". I thought it sounded vaguely similar, but the court ordered Thicke to pay 5 million dollars over it.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where AI generated, or AI assisted music ends up. Technology is advancing so fast and I think AI is going to be in every fabric of our lives before long, so I see more of this on the horizon. Thanks for sharing Mack.

Yes, I remember that case. Miley Cyrus worked with Thicke at the time. She wasn't part of the lawsuit, but she had to settle a similar case brought against her by Flourgon, who accused her stealing elements from one of his songs.
