The Welland Canal and The Rideau Canal

When we lived in Niagara Falls, we would take our dog with us to watch the ships come through the Welland Canal.

I feel as though I posted this before, at some time.

Anyway .. the guys on the ships would toss us a can of soda or beer, and we would toss them a soda. Sometimes the can would fall into the water, oops!

Moe (our dog) would sometimes get spooked, as the ships were so silent. He'd be lying on the grass minding his own business, then, suddenly this enormous floating "thing" was passing by. This got him up and barking.

I live just a stone's throw away from Lock#1 of the Welland Canal and have to cross the lock one bridge often to get to the farmers fruit/vegetable stands that are open this time of year. If there's a ship passing through at the time, my trip gets delayed by 15 mins. or so because the lift bridge is up. I just watch from my car as the ship passes through. It's always interesting to watch.

Further south; just south of Lock #2, there's a Welland Canal Museum. I have yet to visit but it's on my "to do list"! I hear it's very interesting.
