There's a crisis born every minute.

I happened to be going back in time in this forum- Current News and Hot Topics. There were a lot of times, there was a "crisis", which really wasn't one. Somehow the "crisis" kind of fizzled out, and everybody forgot about it. WWII was a true crisis, but do we make things into a "crisis", which aren't a true crisis? Do we need to create a sense of danger and peril as a human thing, when no true "crisis" exists? Do we justify doing certain things, because it is a "crisis"?

The tabloid press use language that implies crisis. You see headlines on the news stands, some of those headlines make you wonder how we have got this far. Our press are past masters at making mountains out of molehills.

I think while there are real crisis in the world….the media wants the next best thing. In this way they inadvertently influence the course of history. A good example is the sudden interest and corresponding angst about Africa. China has been partnering with some African countries for about fifteen years that I know of. They have built roads and infrastructure in return for things like mineral rights. Today it has become a crisis….

The weather people love a crisis. They've been warning us since yesterday that there will be horrendous winds today, as much as 60 mph. Heavy rains. Sounded like the weather from hell.

The day isn't over yet, but right now the sun is shining, the leaves on the trees aren't even stirring, it's an ordinary pleasant day. It did rain this morning, but I was out and didn't feel the slightest bit like I was about to be blown over by the wind.

It will be interesting to see if anything dramatic happens at all.

Oooh oooh! šŸ– (Do I sound like Arnold Horshack???) I just saw the newest one... you're right, @fuzzybuddy ... it *is* constant! Here's the latest:
Actor Dennis Quaid is out with a documentary about the prospect of a power grid outage that would send the United States "back to the 1880s."

It used to be called "Sensationalism".
Now it's just the flavor of the day...
"Here's a Rocky Road for you"
Forget about truth.
The most shocking wins the most high paying commercials
Or it's politically motivated.

Why I avoid the national news outlets:

"What does having a crisis mean?
Crisis is a state of feeling; an internal experience of confusion and anxiety to the degree that formerly successful coping mechanisms fail us and ineffective decisions and behaviors take their place. As a result, the person in crisis may feel confused, vulnerable, anxious, afraid, angry, guilty, hopeless and helpless."

As I’m reading through this thread it made me think of the TV show, Russell Howard's Good News, and of a particular news item.

This YouTube video is comparing UK vs USA news coverage of Ebola. I think is fair so say there is some stereotyping in the video, as certain news groups in the UK can be as sensationalist as any other.

There may be some licence being used in this video for dramatic effect?

I’m only posting it because this thread triggered my memory of it. Feel free to come to your own conclusions. Are we Brits really this phlegmatic? The USA in the 1930’s described us as such in one particular document I can think of.
