there's always something unexpected...

Good afternoon to all-
I thought we were through with moving, but then, you never know.
It looks as if we will be moving- for an indefinite period of time- to Phoenix to help with the grandsons.
I am not sure how I am going to adjust to living in a desert.
We'll see what shakes loose-
good afternoon to all- Ed

One thing I know is that the sunsets are gorgeous. Bless you and your wife Ed, I am one who hates moving but has done it more in my life than almost anyone I know. I hope all goes very smoothly for you two and you end up loving it there.

Hope all goes well, it will be a new experience I'm sure. Spending time with the grandchildren should be fun. Good luck!

Good luck Ed, Arizona or any hot state isn't for me. Nice you'll be helping out though and spending some quality time with your grandsons. :)

Ed - I just spent a week there (Phoenix) visiting a friend. It didn't suck. You'll be fine. But I'd look for a home with a pool if I were moving there.

Hug the grandsons!

Good Luck with your move, Ed. That would be too hot for me, but it's nice you can help out when needed. I lived in Florida when I was young, but could't stand it now although this is a drier heat. Let us know how this turns out.

Damned if I'd move house just to look after someone else's kids, but we each make our own choices.

My son lives in Australia and if he wants any help I'm not moving over there to give it to him!

In summer, expect the Phoenix temperature to be over 100 every day. You go from air conditioned house to air conditioned car. We lived there 14 years.

In Florida I have only seen 100 degrees once in 29 years living here. There is a big difference in humidity between the two. We prefer FL to AZ.

Do you REALLY have to move to help them? Is there no other solution?

I trained / worked as a civilian in what is called the 'high desert' in Calif. on George AFB back in late '76 & part of '77 prior to going to Libya for a couple of years and didn't care much for it......nothing but tumbleweeds, cactus, jack rabbits, rattlesnakes, scorpions for scenery and HEAT.

Just my opinion but I think to really enjoy living in the desert you have to be from there, it takes some getting used to......I know where I was I missed trees, creeks, lakes etc.

I spent a couple of days in Las Vegas when the heat got up to 107 degrees, and it was a piece of cake outside compared to 95 here in Georgia.

Ed you will have to get used to not shoveling snow or being indoors due to really cold miserable nasty weather. No need to start your car to get the heater going to defrost the windshield. It is hot but not for the full 12 months. Probably the most difficult thing to adapt to will be seeing Christmas ornaments/decorations on a cactus.

Good afternoon to all-Well, this is going to be an adjustment. My body is still running on eastern/central time zones, and Arizona is far behind both of those. I wake up at my ususal time, and there's still 2 hours until anyone else is awake. Good time for writing though.
The biggest adjustment- too many people. I'm used to and function best in very small towns or back off in the woods. This city living is going to be different.
Now, you all think good thoughts for me- I have to fly back home to Alabama this weekend, try to get lots of stuff- Drs., pharmacyies, banks, insurance other stuff rounded up and then load a van's worth of furniture, cloths, (sand kayaks and fishing gear) to drive back the week after. Wife will try to find us an apartment to livein when I'm on the road.
This whole thing sounds like something I would have done forty years ago.
But getting to be with the Grands is good-
Ed

Ike, you're describing where I live, but you left out the tumbleweeds, the godawful wind, and the occasional flash flood during the summer monsoon season. Oh, and the gritty sand in EVERYTHING!
