Thermometer Doesn't Change Reading

This EZRead was on the shed, but I noticed it always reads the same no matter how cold or warm. I took it down and saw it has a metallic coil in back. It's not broken and is attached to the hand. Why doesn't the hand move when the temperature changes? Can it be repaired?

To let you know - I pried off the cover and discovered the hand was bent and probably pressing against the cover preventing it from moving. When I tried to straighten it, it broke off. Cheap brittle polystyrene - probably overheated in the sun and slightly melted on the thin end!
There's one closest to what I had at the local hardware store and it also shows the humidity.
