These scammers are so stupid!

I just received a phone call that according to my caller id, is from my phone number. I don't answer it but they leave a message telling me that my license is about to expire in several countries and something about my ip address needed changing. They are stupid to think that if they use our phone number, we are going to believe anything they say. I don't believe anything they say anyway and I never answer but I'm sure not going to when it shows they're calling from my number. I know there are some out there that do but it's still ridiculous.

This week my local police department sent out this alert:

" A reminder for residents: Please be careful who you allow inside your home. In the past month we have had several instances in which suspect(s) claim to work for a City department or utility company investigating a water or gas issue. While inside the home, the suspect(s) steal cash or jewelry. No one has been injured, but it appears they are targeting the elderly. "

Yeah, who's going to believe those scammers when they call from your own number--they must think we are stupid but it rather appears they are. :)

We had a message on our mobile yesterday we’ve won a years supply of petrol from a competition we entered at a shell service station near our home town two hours from a city ....we don’t have a Shell SS any closer than 80 km away from us and we don’t buy petrol from shell or enter competitions

I have been getting the "Suspicious activity with your Social Security number" ones. I know the spammer calls, and 99% of the time just ignore and block the number. But every once in a while I will answer the call just to see what the scam of the day is. THEN I hit block number on my phone.

That's exactly what I think too! They think we're the stupid ones but in reality, they are the ones who are stupid. I started to block my own phone number but then I decided to wait and see if they try it again.

"......found that the number of fraudulent calls in early 2018 had soared to 30 percent of all calls, rising from 4 percent in early 2017.The rise, experts say, is being driven partly by the success of spoofing, or using nearby area codes and local prefixes to trick people into thinking a call is from someone in their neighborhood....".

Not so stupid. Go to FTC site and see the amount of fraud, especially by area and age.

I get calls all the time that caller ID says are from small towns near my home. I guess I'm supposed to believe that every small town in Texas has a call center? If you're going to lie to me about where you're calling from, why would I believe your sales pitch? So stupid.

April, about the phone call from your own number, don't be too quick to assume they are scammers. Maybe the calls are coming from someone in your house? Maybe you called yourself? Maybe there's a ghost living there,
making these calls? I think you should trust anything they tell you. ;)

LOL!!!!! If the call was really coming from this house, then it is a ghost and it's a scammer too because I'm here alone. :D

They target the elderly because they are easy marks. I had to stay with my mother for the last 2 years of her life because of that. On one occasion, two young guys came to her door with a story about how they catered a big party nearby & they have lots of meat & fish left over in their van that they'll sell real cheap. They started leading her to their van (50 feet away) until I came out of another room (with a hidden gun) & suggested they leave. They continued taking her to the van--she was going willingly--then I said, "Stop," & brought the .45 out, pointed down. They let go of her arm & said, "Aw, man...no need for that." I gave their license number to police. They told me they were already looking for them. A whole gang was targeting elderly people. Once they get the occupant to the van, another group ransacks the house. Two victims were beaten & one was killed.
