This is my niece Jamie with her daughter`s Beagle, Disney, and my sister`s dog Quinn! Big dog show in San Francisco this weekend. I showed my Irish Setter in this show many, many years ago (50,in fact) and even though he did really well,I decided that showing dogs was not for me.

My Afghan Hound won her class at her first show. She did well, for two more shows, but then I came to realize that dog shows are all about professional handlers and the judges they know very well. I got out.
That’s right. It’s all about who you know and how invested you are in competing which costs LOTS of money so basically like everything, it’s unfortunately all about the money.

Exactly why I decided that it wasn`t for me! And that was 50 years ago-it is soooo much worse now. About 15 years ago,I bought a llama that had done really well in shows in her young life and the breeder talked me into showing her. One show and I said "Oh been there, done this." No thanks. From what I`ve heard,my niece funds my sister(her mom) for most of her showing-my niece and her husband have more money than they know what to do with. Not being snarky here,it`s just the truth and none of my business how they spend their money.

Very cool Mrs. R! Beautiful dogs! Many moons ago, early 90s, I started to show my S. Schnauzer pup in dog shows, an agreement I had with the breeder. He did well for a puppy, won some ribbons in both show and obedience with me as his handler and trainer....but I soon saw that the show life was not for me. I didn't like the crowd and didn't want to put my dog through that kind of life.

I always felt that way too but when I see my sisters, nieces and grandnieces with their dogs,I have to say that these dogs live a better life than we can even imagine. They spend a lot of time traveling in cars, but they don`t seem to mind. They sleep in bed with their owners in all the hotels. They get groomed and loved on all day long. The amount of time they actually spend in the show ring is very minimal.
