Things, possessions, stuff, belongings; need 'em?

I have rid myself of a lot. I also have thrown out important things that I really wish I hadn't--all my college books and notes and those from grad school I wish I hadn't. It was in a moment of turmoil and I kicked myself in the you know what for a long time.

Just be careful what you part with--think it through.

Now I'm really bothered.
The lady, Gaer got me thinking about chucking stuff away, but my 250 rectangular ice cream tubs are too good to get rid of.
I use lots of them for storing stuff in, and they stack ontop of each other so well, so I had a think, you know, one of those moments when my little grey cell starts to glow with an idea. I've decided to punch holes in the blighters and use then as plantpots. 😊

Sometimes I look at all the "stuff" we have, and can just imagine the huge auction the kids would need to have to get rid of much of it. My workshop and garage are filled with tools, and outdoor items that I continue to use fairly frequently, but I sometimes wonder if I really need all this stuff. I have been slowly selling some of it on EBAY, but have hardly put a dent in it.

Then, my wife is a Clothes-a-holic, and she has enough clothes to fill an entire aisle in a Salvation Army or Goodwill Store.

The day may not be very far off when we need to start doing some Serious "downsizing".

We have a family home in Lyon, for all the family, where lots of our "treasures" are kept. It is open to all of us and as the years go by we all add to it. But for myself and my husband we do not hoard anything, we buy what we need, we give away what we hardly use and see no point to hanging on to useless possessions. It is freeing that way. It is not in my nature to buy just for the sake of buying!

As you get older, you better get rid of most of your "stuff". It really is just "stuff." It will save your kids the effort of carrying your stuff to the dumpster. They really just want your cash; not your doll collection nor what you have in the china cabinet. Sorry but it's true! Life is a rip-off. You work, you buy and you pay. When you get old you just gotta give it away! Sad truth, pilgrim
The day I retired I started cleaning out the closets and the garage. I don't have any kids, but I don't want anyone else to have to do it. We cleaned out my mother's "stuff" when she moved from her home to assisted living, and when she passed it took us less than 8 hours to clean out her apartment.

I guess both you and I figured out that less is more. I have learned that I don't need all the "stuff" I thought I needed when I was younger. I am not saying that we should get rid of everything but I'm saying that we should cut back on what we do have.

We figure when the time comes our son will have the yard sale to end all yard sales!
