Things that make life easier.

Don’t want to sound like Clark’s cousin Eddie but thought I might get some tips on things that make your life easier as you get older
I use news paper carrier bags to carry the heavier groceries in from the car.
I try not to overdo it and two gallons of liquid and a little more is one trip.
That frees up my hands to carry lighter bags too.
I had the strap lengthened so that I can duck my head through it to keep it from falling off of my shoulder.
Okay your turn- just anything that makes your life easier?

I have a large canvas bag I use for laundry. I can hold it in one hand instead of a cumbersome laundry basket. I toss it down the 6 steps and then gather anything that spills out. Coming back up with clean laundry I need my cane to master the top step where the railing ends.

Good thread. I'm sure there are other ideas out there.

This might sound trivial but I now always make sure to have a pair of working gloves in my vehicle. My grip isn't as strong as it use to be and the gloves helps help me get a stronger grip on heavy items that I buy on occasion.

I have an Insulated bag on wheels.. similar to this one but mine has more pockets.

I Keep it in the car, so when I get my groceries I transfer them straight into this insulated trolley bag which keeps everything cool until I get home.. and then I lift the whole thing out and wheel it indoors..It actually holds an incredible amount and the bag can be removed to carry large bottles of water..or boxes....

and it's weighted very evenly which means I can lift the whole thing out of the car , containing several bags of groceries, without much difficulty ..

I may have mentioned this before but I buy some of that rubbery puckered shelf liner at the dollar store and cut it in pieces. It is great for getting a good grip for opening jars and bottle. I keep one in each room, one in the car and one in my purse.

I use that rubber liner thing to keep under things on the kitchen counter to stop them moving..like the microwave etc...

this stuff.. you can cut it to any size you need . and it's cheap as chips...

Having mobility issues means I use a walker to get around. The walker has become my way of transporting things from one place to another. I have found it be very handy in many different ways.

I use it for shopping and can safely keep my purse in the bag under the seat for my purse so I am not at risk of having it stolen while I am out.
I use it to carry my laundry to the laundry room.
I use it to take my garbage out.
I use it for carrying packages that have been delivered.
I use it carrying groceries upstairs (using an elevator) to my apartment.

In the kitchen I have organized to make it easier. My shoulders and arms hurt so need the things I use often within an easy reach. I had to stop worrying if my counters were clear and have things arranged along the back of my counters. Besides who am I trying to impress? I am the only one here. I still have plenty of counter space along the front of the counters.

Amazon Alexa, and Google Nest make life easier for me.. granted it makes me lazy, but life is easier with them programmed to turn lights and heating off and on, whether I'm indoors or on the opposite side of the world...
Most helpful to me are the temp & hum sensors that can alarm when extremes are passed, and can be monitored/queried via phone app or Alexa. The phone app even maintains historical charts that I find useful at the week level to project trends. If we get a ton of rain I can know about basement dampness early, and in winter I can be aware of cold before pipes freeze. In both cases I can take action prior to damage.

For twist caps on bottles I use

I keep those pliers in a kitchen drawer.

For peel back tab top cans I pull the tab enough to get the tip of a butter knife under it. I don't know how many times I've struggled to pull that tab only to lose my grip on the can & spill the contents. Zero problems now.
I do exactly that with tab top cans... but I then use the handle of a spoon to pull the tab back in case the knife slips and I cut myself..

I wish that I would have saved something I saw on tv about how to open a lot of different kinds of food containers, mostly jars. About the only one I remember anything about was how easy it was to open a pickle jar if you know how.
They turned it upside down and smack it on the bottom with the palm of the hand before opening it.
But I guess there are a lot of different ways to break the seal to make it easier to open a jar.

I made a cooling sleeve for my drivers side arm to keep the sun from burning it while driving.
I made it out of a cooling towel because the towel has 50% UV blocking and evaporative cooling technology.
I lay another cooling towel over the area where my shorts end and down over my knees to keep my legs from burning.
These cooling towels are very light and allow for a lot of air circulation.

You must be a very sturdy and determined girl, Holly, me, if I had one of those I'd need a horse to pull it. ;)
