Sometimes, I wanted new parents! I remember in 1962 round the time we were taking our 11+ exam (UK members will know about that), a lot of my friends were being promised 'incentives' to do well. I asked if I could have a telescope as I was mad about astronomy. Every time I asked, my mother said "we'll see". Well, I passed with flying colours, but no telescope. When I protested, my mother just said, "I said we'll see". So I learned that "we'll see", meant "No".

My father was stuck in his ways and totally refused to see any other point of view. My mother was very insecure and almost paranoid about what people thought about her, but I was stuck with them and I never did get new parents.

Toots, I can understand that, at the time that was a good field to work in, and still is today. But I bet being in the health field was better for your back. I was born Dec. Of '51, and I wanted to be a welder. Now I'm glad that didn't happen. :wave:

The Good Lord has blessed my wife and I with so much! We will never be financially wealthy. But, we raised three great kids who have blessed us with 8 grandkids. What more could we want?

My wife and I were foster parents to 104 children over a number of years. I walked one young lady down the aisle, since I was the only "sane" father she had known. She and her husband have been married almost 25 years and have two great kids. Seeing the suffering of so many children through no fault of their own, why would I ever want more than I've been blessed with?

I have spent over 40 years in the engineering and construction industry. Working with construction personnel, especially this past 10 years of so, it is increasingly difficult to listen to the stories of hate and disrespect between spouses/parents. Again, money can't buy anything that would replace the life the my wife and I have enjoyed. Too many, today, want. They want electronic gadgets. They want steak. They want new cars. They want designer clothes. They want the finest in furnishings. They want....

I just finished hogging down a couple of chocolate cookies. I think I "want" a couple more........

I always wanted to be able to ride a bicycle and feel the wind blowing through my hair. I have always had inner ear problems that interfere with my sense of balance so I couldn't ride a bicycle. A few years ago, I decided it's now or never. I bought myself a three wheel bicycle and rode it. I most likely have not ridden it more that ten or fifteen miles but I did get to feel the wind blowing through my hair. Wow, what a wonderful feeling that is!

20 years ago an old friend who was a builder, took me out into our garden, gave me a pile of bricks and talked me through building a barbeque. I had a whale of a time. The barby blew down in the winter storms:lofl:, but I had a go didn't I?

I have rarely ever 'wanted' things...but desperately , like Capt lightening...wished that my parents weren't really mine and that by some evil act I'd been adopted into Aliens and my real parents would find me one day...never happened of course.

I always wanted a Pool too like others, but thought only millionaires ever had them here in the UK but 10 years ago I achieved it by buying a house with a large pool in a hot country where property is much cheaper, ...so I felt like a millionaire even though I'm far from it, and I luuuurve that pool and use it extensively when I'm there .

But, in answer to the OP's question I think what I've always really wanted to do since I was a tiny child, is the ability to sing, and sing well. Nothing would give me greater pleasure, but sadly it will always be a pipe dream!

If you want to sing, use what the Good Lord gave you and sing!!! Some of my best memories are of those who sang loudest in church... out of tune. Their lack of pitch never mitigated their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment. I drive 30,000 miles/year... most of those by myself in my pickup truck. If that truck could talk, she would tell the whole world how poorly I sing along with the radio. Don't sell yourself short! Find a youtube video of a favorite song, hit 'Play', and sing your heart out!!!!

Oh lol GOM...please believe me I sing, I sing almost all the time, have done all my life, I love to sing, I love music of almost all genres' I played a musical instrument in the school orchestra, but I am totally unable to hold a tune after a few bars, so I only sing in the car or in the house when I'm alone to save people telling me to shurrup, which they do if I sing in company!!
