This CAN'T be healthy .... "the polar plunge" in WIsconsin

Those folks gotta be nuts !

A drawback <------(no pun intended) for males taking the icy plunge is that we tend to experience extreme........

This seems to be a "tradition" in many parts of the country...here, a bunch gather every NY Day to jump into the Lake of the Ozarks. Luckily, the water temperature is still usually in the 40 degree range, but the air temps are bitter....this NY Day the temps will be in the low single digits...so as soon as they leave the water, they have to dry off and bundle up to avoid hyperthermia. It's all supposedly done for "charity", but I fail to see the logic in risking their health instead of just making a donation.

It's not only in this country. I've seen photos of groups of Japanese doing the same thing.

Some (maybe all) of the Scandinavian countries do the sauna followed by a frolic in the snow/swim in the icy lake routine. A friend who lives in the country built a sauna near his lake so he could do the same thing. People who do it swear it's excellent for their health.

I can't imagine doing that. My joints would freeze up and I'd never walk again.I'll stick to my almost boiling bathwater that takes me 20 minutes to ease myself into.
