This Evening's "American Pickers"

One of my wife's favorite shows, and one of the damned few I look at. They sought to buy stuff from an old guy much like me, though I have no such goods accumulated. he had big rings on all fingers, ear rings, and preferred to wear "Speedo" swim underwear whenever possible, like Mark Spitz' thong back in the Olympics. My wife labeled him an A.H. I personally related, though I dared not say.

The guy was a sexy old man, still feeling his "oats", as I saw it. He could have been my age. Being pursued by 5 widows (he took time to consider the question and figure out how many he was fending off).

But, driving a '47 Harley with Mike in the sidecar, wearing what amounted to a yellow thong barely private-covering, took the cake. I think the show has gone too far beyond realism, acting upon dramatic presentation beyond realistic presence.

Agree or disagree? imp

I do enjoy the show,I love going to yard sales in the summer,I would not mind having a job like that.
They meet a lot of different characters but I will have to find this episode and get back to you about the speedo! Lol

I didn't see this show imp. I sometimes watch it on reruns during the day but seldom catch it in the evening. I am not sure if you meant the man was wearing yellow speedos and nothing else ( I hope he wore a helmet) or was he wearing them as underpants? If they were his underpants, it is really none of our business but if he was wearing them and nothing else, then I hope I miss that episode. Yellow underwear is never attractive on anyone.

I'm not sure why you dared not tell your wife your opinion of the man. Would she slap you off your recliner for disagreeing with her?

American Pickers is running out of ideas and places to pick and now it's a lot of drama manufactured by producers of the show. I especially dislike it when they are looking for something for a celebrity or when they go to a place like the Baseball Hall of Fame or some museum or whatever. Those shows especially appear "scripted" to me.

I also watch Pawn Stars and House Hunters and they too are going down hill in my, of course humble, opinion. :)

Naturally the shows are staged!! But again I like to see these old relics..

Pawn Stars..Cameraman just happens to be there when the rarest of rarest item comes in!!
.
Am. Pickers.. Mike and Frank travel thousands of miles in their van from Iowa and buy a railroad lantern and bike horn..

And the Alaska show where the old guy is snowshoeing back to his camp in a blinding snow storm..My wife says she hopes he makes it, and I reply what about the cameraman??

I agree, Ken. When I figured out that these two shows were staged, they no longer interested me. I just don't believe in Fairy Tales. I probably have not watched an episode in over two years.

Storage Wars are the ones that I refused to watch...

American Pickers is just like the other "reality" shows.....bearing very little resemblance to reality. Real "pickers" don't show up and offer you reasonable amounts of money for your junk, even if it isn't junk. They blow in, sneer at what you have and offer to take it off your hands for a tiny amount of money. They're businesspeople, out to make money and they're not going to make the amount of money they want to make if they offer you anywhere near what your junk is worth. If you've ever had a garage sale, you can tell immediately who the people are who are buying for their stores or to "flip" the items. You're asking $50, they offer you $5 and don't budge.

Imp,I watched the episode.
That was funny and disturbing, lol speedo is a 'player'.

The show is still worth watching because of the stuff they find.

All shows are staged, nothingg new there.

Watching them is like wandering through a antique/second hand shop. It is all about the odd curiosities.

I watch the pickers once in awhile but am not interested in what they pick. motors, gas cans etc. I wish they had a women's picker show. They had one on,not sure if they still do, but they bought junk and had things made from it. Not the same concept as the Am. Pickers. I would like to see old dishware, linens, kitchen utensils. furniture, items like that.

We've been inundated with the above mentioned 'junk' shows here in Australia!
I'm always amazed at the kind of 'junk' picked and considered valuable.
Of course, it's staged!
Still I watch it.
Why, you ask!
Because I see scenery of the U.S. I've never experienced before, some of it quite beautiful.
Even enjoy the various characters, who seem so isolated, wistfully waving the 'Pickers' good-bye.

I used to watch fairly often but got tired of their seeming always just picking auto related stuff. How about a piece of China p
or crystal once in a while. Like Danielle, like seeing her get more responsibility, but I frankly hate seeing all those increasing number of tattoos. There used to be some picking type show with both men & women, I recall a contest type where they would get things at flea markets & see who could get the most $ at auction for them.

I watch "Flea Market Flip". It's a show with two teams of two who are given $500 per team to go out at a flea market and get three items/sets that can be refurbished, repurposed or completely changed around, which are then sold again at the flea market. The winning team is the one that clears the most money. The prize is $5,000.

It's entertaining to see what they do with the stuff, but supposedly they only have one day to do all the work (which in a lot of cases would be impossible) and they have a "team of experts" to help out (who seem to do most of the work for them). There's a lot of trash-talking between the teams.

It seems like people are willing to pay way too much for the finished product, but then again, it IS set in New York City so what do I know?

Anyway, it's entertaining..... I think I'd love to get into repurposing stuff and selling it, but I have no room (or expensive power tools/paint spray booths/welding equipment, etc) in which to do it.
