Well, if it is a marketing trick to get me to be a paid member, it is not a very good one.

That's exactly what it is. You probably got one click on the Remember Me thing, and the website bot is programmed to keep notifying you for a while. It's an enticement. Those notifications keep coming until you join or they hit the limit of 6 notifications, or whatever.

True, it isn't a good trick, but laws make sure those kind of websites have only tiny magic hats.
