This is why people do not care to report or try to help

That reminds me of an unnerving incident from my college days 50+ years ago. A couple of men followed me into the building late at night. When I finally got back into my apartment and felt safe I heard a noise; there was a stream of light across the hallway where someone was looking in my mail slot. My corded phone was on the other side of the hall. Felt like forever that I stood there waiting for him to leave.
No-one can see through the letterbox if you have a brush draught excluder fitted... most letterboxes now have them fitted as standard

They won't take them to the door? :(
Not if they can forcibly shove them in the mailbox! They shove so hard that the 'back door' to the box won't close any more. Now, I have to stand in the busy road to open my mail box - I had to tape the back closed so pedestrians on the sidewalk don't see my goodies.

Last winter, someone hit my roadside mailbox and broke the post in half, and the box was crushed. My cousin was nice enough to replace it for me. He even got the post and mailbox himself, so I didn't have to do it. Unfortunately, he didn't ask me what kind of box I wanted and just bought a standard size. My previous mailbox was over-sized, so larger packages would fit in it. I didn't say anything about the smaller size box because he was kind enough to do it for me. The smaller size box does inconvenience my postal lady occasionally.

If a package won't fit in my mailbox, she pulls into the driveway and deposits it at my door, along with my mail. I know that mailmen are always pressed for time and want to take as few steps as possible when making deliveries. Some are too lazy to deliver packages that won't properly fit in the mailbox to the door. So it's no wonder they try to jam parcels into mailboxes that are too small.

You could try calling the post office and complaining about your mailbox being damaged from packages being forced in, but that might end up causing you more problems. If you p*ss off your carrier, your mail could end up getting "lost". Or you might consider installing a larger mailbox. Of course, that's not a guarantee that it will stop the mailman from trying to shove packages in any way.

Anyone who gets their mail or packages delivered to their door and is worried about theft could get a locking parcel drop box made from plastic or metal, but larger ones can be expensive. If you're concerned that thieves could run off with the whole box, you can secure it by filling the false bottom with rocks, sand, or other heavy material to make it crazy heavy, or you can drill through the bottom and secure it to the floor.

That's not an option for you, Em, because you have roadside delivery. Maybe a locked parcel drop box that could be cemented into the ground where your mailbox is? It seems like that would be a lot of trouble and expense, but it might help solve your problem. I dunno. You'd have to look into it to make sure it's legal and that the drop box you choose is approved by the post office. I'm just trying to come up with some kind of solution to mail theft and damage. It would probably still p*ss off the mailman because he'd have to get out of the truck every day to open the box.

When we first bought our house, there was no mail delivery. We had to go to the post office to pick up our mail. It was a bit inconvenient but, thankfully, the post office was just a couple of minutes down the road. At least we didn't have to worry about mail or packages being stolen or the mailbox being plowed down. 🙄

I was married to a mailman. He took great pride in his job. He was a rural carrier and many on his route had trouble getting to the mailbox. He was happy to take their mail to the door and deliver it. We (Now I) live in a neighborhood that requires mail delivered to the porch only because we were grandfathered in. Anyone that buys a house in our area must put up a mailbox for curbside delivery.

That being said, there are many that do not care. They just want to do what is easiest for them without getting in trouble. You should report every problem. If they do not want to do their job they will have to face the boss and their unions.
The customer should not suffer!

I have no problems with my mail delivery other than occasionally getting my neighbors' mail, which I then deposit in their mailbox, and when it snows, I make sure the area around my mailbox is cleared so there's no trouble pulling up to it. I love my postal lady ❤️ and always give her a gift at Christmas.

Thanks for the thoughts! I would hesitate to report my carrier - my service is awful as is, with my neighbor and I always having to exchange mail and packages they mixed up. I've never seen any boxes like this in my entire county, not even in the mega-million neighborhoods. The super wealthy do tend to dress up their 'approved style' curbside boxes, surrounding them with brick or stonework to protect from the plows. But, if I had the money, this one on the link you provided is SO cute!

So who gets to keep the key for this one.. otherwise it's just going to get raided isn't it ?

I love my usual carrier; he takes good care of my mail, and if I haven't gone to pick it up (down a pretty good hill) he will bring it up to check on me. Not so much the sub who, if he drops something getting it to the box, isn't going to bother picking it up.

Mail thieves are identity thieves....

There are literally hundreds of mail thieves caught on door cams on YouTube. Police aren't doing much about it.
In the past, while washing dishes by the kitchen window, I saw a vehicle pull up to our mailbox at the road and take the mail. If I remember correctly, at a later date the state sent a check, a surprise, resulting from stolen mail. I don't know if the two incidents are related, as there was no detailed explanation.
