July 4th, 7:04 PM I was compelled to text the following to my son:
"This MUST be said:
If we are ever in an active shooter situation I Can't Run But
YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAN AND I EXPECT YOU TO.
Let's hope it doesn't happen of course."

After a while he texted back some lame joke about me playing dead with goofy faces; obviously a deflection from reality--too difficult to think of leaving mom while running for your own life.
I replied "Unfortunately this should be taken seriously."

This is our new reality. This CAN happen. Plans should be made 'what to do.' I gave my son, his wife, his son permission to LIVE with no regret.
A few months ago, in nearby Barclay Center people thought they heard a gunshot. They did not, but stampeded. Realistically, if I were there, I could have been easily crushed. This is real, our new reality. I'm ready.
