Those who were bullied in school

I became inured to it after Jr high. I was "Sort of" bullied at various jobs, but when they saw they couldn't get a rise out of me, they left me alone.

But to this day I remember it. Very likely it has hampered my life, psyche and attitude to some people.
 

I was never bullied in school, unless I consider a speaker on the auditorium stage being one when he said something about student rudeness and looked to his right straight at me sitting slumped in my chair. Head resting on back of chair. But I wasn't about to straighten up. The girls on each side of me had their arms on both my armrests making it impossible for me to put my right elbow on one so that I could still my shaking head by holding it in my hand. So the back of the chair had to do. Nothing came of the situation after...

It was never anything physical, just mocking comments that made me feel like crap. I never fought back (i.e., verbally). I probably should have. I didn't have any parental support at home, so at the time I just suffered through it.

My self-esteem grew by leaps and bounds after I got into my late teens, but I still have a level of hate for that girl.

see this was the problem for me.. in that when I complained at home that I was being bullied, I would be told that if I didn't learn to stand up to them then I would get a hiding from the father... we were all told this.. one time he even followed through with it, and took my 11 year old brother out in the garden and wanted to fight him like a man, until my mother stepped in... so we had to learn to stand up for ourselves.. and win... or face the wrath at home...

slightly off topic...very slightly... still with regard to bullies...

In todays paper, a 22 year old Polish childcare assistant at a prestigious Nursery in West London for babies between 18 months and 2 years ... was filmed kicking them in the face, punching them, and stepping on them

I can't remember being "individually" bullied. There were bullies in the school, of course, who bullied everybody. It was just the luck of the draw whether it was going to be your unlucky day or not.

Now bullied by a teacher? Oh, yeah. My 4th grade teacher was a champion bully.

yep all of ours were ..Scottish teacher were renouned for it.. they used these leather tawse on us with alacrity.. they were supposed to just belt our hands which was very painful........

For children schooled in Scotland right up until the 1980s, a particular leather product was the source of fear and dread - the Lochgelly Tawse.
The tawse, a Scots word meaning thongs of a whip, was an essential part of the teacher's trade.
It was the Scottish school's corporal punishment weapon of choice against unruly students and enforced a strict atmosphere in classrooms from Shetland to the Borders.
While students throughout the rest of the UK were punished by use of belt or cane, Scottish teachers used this modified version of the belt - a thick leather whip with one end split in to two tails, or tawse.


Students were not only disciplined for disobeying rules or disorderly behaviour but simply for not understanding a lesson, or for answering a question incorrectly.
 
Not only individuals are picked on by bullies but weak nations are also bullied by many strong nations. Nazi Germany was a famous bully in Europe during the 1930's. These days Russia and Iran are notable bullies.

The USA was started by European bullies who prayed on the indigenous folks called Indians and also prayed on African blacks making slaves out of 6 million.
 
I recall some mild bullying - probably nothing compared to what goes on these days. A lot of older, bigger kids like to hit or slap me, especially on the school bus. All I can theorize is they didn't have happy homes and took it out on the "little" kids. After a while I said to myself, "Why an I putting up with this?" I stared hitting back - then it stopped for the most part.
 
Some years back, when they started studies on bullying, one study came out and said that most bullies were that way because they were being bullied at home (by a parent or older sibling). Then a study came out and said No, people become bullies because they're spoiled at home. Then the last study I heard about said that most people become bullies because they enjoy it, that feeling of power I guess.

I really think it has to be the power they wield over people... ,,,think about Bullies in prisons for example.... or bullying staff in employment...

I was small with the nickname "Miniature", given to me by the only fellow I've ever hated in person. Fortunately for him, he never touched me. If he had, I would have looked him up after my time in the Army. I was told he grew up to be a solid citizen, a good father and a good addition to his community.
In the ninth grade I had suffered enough abuse from one jerk who pushed me over the edge and I ripped into him during study hall. He didn't know what hit him. The principal actually apologized to my mother for having to suspend me for three days explaining my actions were more than justified (he was well aware of what a punk my tormentor was). When I attained a Top Secret clearance all records of that incident had disappeared from my records. I didn't get bullied after that incident.
