I had an intense dislike of dolls as a kid & that drove Mom crazy because she always loved them. I just wanted the stuffed animals to play with.

Mom found a reproduction soft-body antique porcelain baby with a face, arms & legs that looked too real. Couldn't stand that thing. When we cleaned out her house, my brother tried to get me to take it & I told him he could have it.

While cleaning out my MIL's Christmas decorations, we found a 3'6" soft-body girl skier doll whose face & hands looked like the sailor doll from the Twilight Zone "the Dummy" episode. It was sitting in a cupboard & made me jump when I opened the door. It immediately went into a bag & into the dumpster.

Being little I couldn't put in words, but I guess even back then those things creeped me out. The old ones definitely make the hair on my neck stand up.

I have the base to my Grandma's treadle that I learned to sew on. Mom got rid of the top (she didn't sew) & turned it into a table, but I always wanted to replace it. My daughter this one for me at a local thrift store, still had the attachments & sewing guide with it. I had it cleaned & it works great! Looks very similar to this one:

We have a Christmas doll with a pretty ivory dress and veil. She moves her arms.
My son never liked that doll. He thought she was creepy.
She got the name "evil doll".
I bring her out every couple of years just so he knows she's still around.😉

That reminds me of my grandmother's old Singer sewing machine. My mother took it over when my grandmother passed away back in 1957. Don't know whatever happened to it. It seems to have disappeared from the family about 60 years or so ago.

The man who worked on my machine loves them. He told me last year the base alone is worth about $125, which is what I paid for the entire machine. Luckily mine only needed cleaning & a new belt.

I cleaned the base to my Grandma's & repainted it & replaced the table top my Mom put on with one I made. I wish I still had the original top too it since there wasn't anything wrong with it & worked, she just wanted to turn it into a table :(.

Sadly, the repairman only works on industrial machines now, but he gave me the name of another person who works one them. He was a good source of information on them.

I have both my grandma's singer sewing machine and my husband's grandma's.

I had my great-grandma's 1904 Singer treadle sewing machine. I sold it years ago to a very old lady who had come to live here in the US with her daughter and wanted a treadle machine, as she didn't like electric ones.

I was delighted for it to go to someone who appreciated the utility of the machine, rather than using it as a plant stand (like I did).
