Thrift stores ?

We have a fairly new one here that supports a cat rescue operation. I went in there last week and about gagged. There were cats all over the place, in cages and loose, and it smelled terrible. My chances of buying anything in there are nil. I can't figure out who would buy anything that you may not be able to get the smell out of....

I love them! Good Will and Savers are near me. I bought a set of beautiful white china, 3 piece place settings for 8, serving bowls and gravy for 30.00! Also some nice copper pieces for my kitchen and several other finds.

Most of the smaller stuffed animals are only 99 cents and the non-bean stuffed ones are perfect for my small doggie who adores them. I'm careful of eyeballs and things like that. Most of them last longer than 10.00 dog toys and are freshly cleaned.

I recently got a lovely green double size Matlasses coverlet for 15.00

Funny, I have not smoked a cigarette in more than ten years. But even with the heavy cleaning the thrift stores do you can still smell it if the person was a smoker...blehhhhh

When my granddaughter was ready to start doing her student teaching and going on interviews, she needed something besides her college wardrobe of jeans, pajama pants, hoodies and hoochie-mama party wear. When she was home for Christmas, we went to my favorite large thrift shop. Less than $60 later, we walked out of the store with SIX big bags full of dressy/office pants, skirts, tops, suits, and a dressy coat. Everything was in excellent shape and most of it was "designer" wear. I think she was the best-dressed student teacher in South Carolina.

So, what does she get to wear to teach now? Jeans, sneakers and hoodies/tshirts. She teaches middle and high school science, biology, chemistry and physics at a private school and it's very, very casual there, students and teachers alike. She still hits the resale shops.

We are lucky, in Denver, to have quite a large number of thrift stores... and oh my YES, I patronize them...Many of the clothes are the more expensive brands (don't look 'old' at all) that I could never afford to buy in a department store. Mostly richer people donate the majority of these clothes...at least to the Ass't League Thrift and the ARC stores... I feel fortunate to be able to shop in them!
Since I was the sole support of my children, we most often shopped at thrift stores, and even though my daughter NEVER fussed or complained...she will not buy clothes from them now...but like Ike said...she will pick up some other items if they are a good deal. :)

Except for underthings and pants I dress exclusively from the choices at the thrift stores. I am not usually in style with the times, preferring instead to create my own sense of style.

I agree, style isn't about what's in this season. By the time you get to our age you don't need somebody telling you what makes you feel good. I just came back from an interview. Let's see from feet up...black ballerina flats, black tights, a deep purple t shirt and matching cover shirt. Purple gives me confidence and black always works. The to add pop...a wrist full of bugle beads, gold neck charm and gold earrings. Even with a sore throat I held my head higher...fun break from jeans and sneaks.
