The Bostonian Society, which operates a museum at the Old State House, said sometime next week it hopes to open a time capsule from 1901 placed in the head of a copper statue of a lion that has stood atop the building.

Love this kind of stuff! I added the Old State House web page to favorites so I'll remember to check it out. Thanks, Meanderer!

Years ago there was news of a little pot of some type of cream found in Rome during an excavation dating back to ancient times. They opened it on a news program. I could never find out what that cream was made of. You could see two, tiny finger traces i it.

I buried a time capsule of my own in one of our fields when I was a kid in the late 50s or early 60s. I wonder if it is still there?

Nice looking building Meanderer isn't it?1901 was the date my Grandma was born.
It sure is! Not sure when my Grandma was born. My grandpap was born on Ground hogs day 1888 (Feb 2). It may have been the year the started it. (or 1887). They were married in 1909. I thought it interesting that the other statue was a unicorn.:)

"The Globe reports that contents may include photographs and autographs of state and city officials, the Boston Globe circular and a map showing the population within a 30-mile radius of Boston. Also, a letter describing the lion and unicorn and campaign buttons for William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, the Globe reports."

Interesting to read that Meanderer, thanks for posting it.We think we are so modern don't we, but in 100 years [less!] people will be marvelling at our quaintness.
