Fire On the Mountain

Quaking aspen
, populus tremuloides, in fall leaf color worked with my a6000 and 30mm lens, focus stack and stitch blended. Critical with fall leaf photography for best light given sunshine, is orienting a lens so the translucent leaves glow from within. A downsized for web version of the 9500 by 6000 original worked on September 29, 2017 at 9250 feet in the Bishop Creek basin.

After the coming weekend street fair fun, our first wet season cold front is forecast to move through California with 8500 foot lowest snow that will put some snow at such fall leaf elevations. Thus, if long range forecasts hold and I can motivate myself, may drive the 5 to 7 hours of 300+ miles.

When I was a kid, mom, dad and I would take a day trip over to Vermont to go leaf peeking and visit the country store in Weston and dine at the Quality Restaurant in Manchester (long since gone OOB) . My dad's birthday was in mid-October, so the Saturday closest to that was the day. A few years ago, I went over by myself, but it wasn't the same without mom and dad. Everything has changed - stores have either gone OOB or under new and seemingly less capable management.
