Time to shoot the TV ?

Yes, I know...... Don't shoot the messenger..... But the TV sure has been bringing a lot of bad news lately! First, all we hear about is North Korea, then, about the time that settled down, there was the marathon bombing, and while we are still reeling from that tragedy, last nite we have a huge explosion and fire that almost wiped out a tiny Texas town near Waco (the anniversary of that is today).

Since they just last week sent the Ft. Hood bomb squad after a guy with an explosive device in Waco, they are apparently checking this fire out as a possible crime scene, according to what I have read thus far.

Anyway, I am ready for TGIF day to get here, hopefully with no bad storms, and praying for a more peaceful week ahead. Meantime, I will put on the noise-cancelling headphones, and just enjoy some good Don Williams music.

Bad news sure seems to come in bunches.Of course the news media love bad news and they get the maximum amount of air time from everything that happens.

Don Williams is always good but I think I'll listen to some Johnny Horton songs.

I have been gone all day and out of touch. When I got home I was pretty amazed to find there was not one mention of Waco on any of my headline news sites today. The Blaze only ran a video from the explosion last night, but that was it..what happened?

Also, the news about the suspects in the Boston bombing is very confusing...do they have an actual suspect or don't they?

More crazy news today about Reuters, in error, running an obit for George Soros, who isn't even dead. Apparently it was a pre-written fill in the blank dates obit they have on file for when he really does kick off...every news site was on that one...

Makes me wonder if they have any adult supervision at these news organizations.

Happyflowerlady, I'm with you on tuning out.:eek:nthego:

I could shoot my TV for a whole lot more reason than bad news.

What passes as comedy these days just floors me. Rot is run in the afternoons that one would see only at a smoker back in the day. No wonder 10 year olds know more about sex than I did at 20! And the 40%+ illegitimate birth rate - well... I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

If it wasn't for history, science, business, and documentary cable channels, I definitely would shoot my TV! :disillusionment:

Total lack of moral values, everything and anything goes.....and that is why these days the definition of a virgin is an ugly third grader...:(

We have not watched network or cable TV in a couple of years. We do stay connected via the Internet (even at work) so we are still up on all the depressing events. It can be very cleansing to disconnect from TV for a time but I fear most of us are addicted to information on a daily basis.

After the firing-bullying-shame-on-them-debaucle-of Ann Curry, NBC is trying to get their ratings back by sending Matt Lauer to cover Waco and Savannah Guthrie is at the desk with a former FBI anti-terrorist expert, giving continuous updates on the two Boston Bombers who are brothers. One is dead, to-date (11:00AM central time), the 17 year old brother has not been found or at least nobody's saying he's been found.

There's been a lot of misinformation, Savannah at least, is saying they're doing their best to keep things accurate but the situation changes in the blink of an eye.

Both have been the only subjects of discussion on NBC this morning. Even Hoda-Woman and Kathy Lee got pre-empted.

When I start growing weary, I still have another 155 channels of DirectTV and nothing to watch - lollol I can easily switch to RFD-TV, GAC, Hallmark, HGTV, and a few others.

For now, I'm going to town and spend money at the feed store - not sure which is more depressing, the check I have to write for medicinal stuff for my two metabolic horses or the television:confused:

The great great news in my area is for all that tornado forewarning we had Thursday, the storm fizzled like a punctured helium balloon by the time it got to my area. We've had more rippin' and tearin' wind when there weren't any Watches or Warnings. We got deluged with rain but we need rain, mud will be gone in 48 hours, and the grass I didn't get mowed before the rain will be three feet tall instead of 18 inches:eek:nthego:

More good news in the Nashville area, the Southern Women's Show is on this weekend, tickets are only $9 and the local firemen will be taking most of their clothes off in a show for donations for the firehall --- yummmmm

The Iroquois Steeple Chase, held just outside Nashville will be in early May and is also being advertised, so I am seeing some good things on local TV;)

There is a lot of crappy shit happening. Unfortunately, it's whats in the news. The good stuff is not quite as interesting. Listen to some good music and escape

Excellent advise!

R.Zimm...haven't had tv for almost 3 years now...don't want it, don't miss it...more than ample streaming sources to satisfy me. You're right about being addicted to information...I'm guilty!

TWH..aww shucks, I guess Kathy and Hoda will have to drink their wine all by themselves in their dressing room and lie to each other about how wonderful they are.

Buy two tickets to the SWS. We'll drink wine, lie to each other and exploit stripper firemen..hopefully, they'll keep their hats on in case of an emergency..I may need mouth to mouth to recusitate me from all the wine drinking and heart pounding.:sentimental:

I really have to get busy, just killing time. Low motivation today from an especially gruelling and frustrating trip to the big city yesterday.:eek:nthego:

Makes me question just why I'm putting myself through the hell of trying to get television service at the new place. Of course, I made the mistake of buying myself an shiny new flat screen . . .

What is most telling about the boobtoob wasteland is that "Two and a Half Men" was continually being voted the #1 comedy!?!?!?!?!? Excuse me, please, while I get sick...
